But what I can't figure out is, if this is a prequel to the prequel of "The Mummy Returns," why tote it as a part two when it says "Rise of a Warrior" on the side of the box? That's a shoddy subtitle, too.
Did anyone notice that it says it's coming to Blu-ray as well? Is this the first official announcement by Universal regarding their manufacturing of Blu-ray, or have I missed something elsewhere?
Actually it's not that uncommon. It may not necessarily be done TOO much, but movies like Tremors 4, From Dusk til Dawn 3 were all prequels but had a sequel-type number on it.

I wonder why the rock didnt return
The first scorpion King was awful. Why make a second?
As for that wrestling guy he's hardly going to break into movies making straight to DVD releases.

No, Universal had previously announced that The Mummy films and The Scorpion King would be released in late July to coincide with the theatrical release of the third Mummy film. There were other titles announced with no specific dates, but those are the first Universal titles that will hit store shelves.
Thanks for clearing that up for me, Matt. :-)
I'll definitely pick up the Blu versions of the first two Mummy films. I'm not even going to waste my time with TotDE or Scorpion King and its sequel.

I'll watch it since I enjoyed the first. It wasn't amazing stuff but a lot of fun. This one looks pretty c**ppy from that box art and going straight to dvd isn't a good sign but I will still watch it. I doubt I would buy it though unless it really impresses me. (which I doubt)
I actually enjoyed the first one with The Rock. This just doesn't have any appeal for me.
Here is some useless info on Randy Couture................

The ad says R, but mpaa.org has the film's rating as PG-13.

Yeah, I think we can all agree this film is a stupid waste of time. But most of you guys don't even know what you're talking about.
"ALL-NEW MOVIE" isn't going to be on the final DVD cover, it's for retailers to put it in their brochures/leaflets (which are printed months in advance).
You see, by having "ALL-NEW MOVIE" written in big bold writing, it stands out, even if the image is shrunk to a small size. The audience see "ALL-NEW MOVIE" and then potentially decide on whether to buy it.
Even without any accompanying text, the audience still know what the film is. It's called marketing. Get a clue.

I love how they put "ALL-NEW MOVIE" I guess they know their audience.

Just when I thought this series couldnt sink any lower than the unecessary "Emperor's Tomb" this c**p surfaces.

Russell Mulchay directed it......
back when the Rock did the original, the plan was to make a trilogy and have it build up to when he became evil and turned into that scorpion monster from Mummy Returns....but now theyr'e doing a prequel? weird.
The guy Randy Couture looks "older" than the Rock (and more ugly too)!!!
Is this film still directed by Russell Mulcahy (of Highlander 1 & 2, the Shadow fame)?

You know they're desperate when they need to include a banner that states it's an "ALL-NEW MOVIE".
Randy Couture does not play Mathayus (aka Scorpion King) He plays the villian in the Movie. The young kid at the bottom is Mathayus.
Here's the IMDB link for any interested

If you read the spine carefully it says "The Scorpion King: Rise of a Warrior", so it looks like it is a prequel. That still doesn't explain why they replaced The Rock with a guy that looks like Ed Harris on steroids. That picture with him raising the axe just screams, "Dur, Mongo smash." Pass.
I'm surprised that they aren't advertising the fact that it's from the director of Highlander, Russell Mulcahy.
BWUAHAHAHAHA!!! That cover art makes it look like a cheap porno! HILARIOUS!
Scorpion King 2??? I haven't even seen Scorpion King pt. 1. Because I only watch barbarian movies that have "Conan" in the title.
Why...
I guess sometime after The Rundown, The Rock became a legit box-office draw, and therefore officially became too expensive to bring back to for the sequel......
1. Uneeded prequel sequel w/e.
2. Who the hell is Randy Coutoure? The bald guy with the axe thats trying to look like The Rock?
3. That one girl to the right looks like Kim Kardashian's sister.
4. The first movie sucked.
5. Even The Mummy 4 or is it part 3? is uneeded...

I'm surprised they don't have banter for the soon to be released new mummy movie is not plasted over the front cover anywhere
Is there some way this can go straight to bin rather than straight to DVD?

I second that statement. The lower banner thing reminds me of Wee Man of Jackass or an advert for Takeshi's Castle, some s**t like that.

Seems April Fools Day is coming quite a bit late this year. While I don't mind the first Scorpion King, I won't watch this or waste the time to even think about watching it. It looks like garbage.
The first one was garbage. I can't even imagine how the straight to DVD sequel would be.
This is hilarious!
A sequel without the rock...and direct to dvd? pass on this suckage.

ummmmm .....yeah...think of all the unreleased movies on dvd that would benefit from all the discs wasted on s**te like this.
I can't wait to not watch it!
I haven't seen any Mummy movies and would like to keep it that way.

Am I having a nightmare? Someone wake me up! Please!
Um... I thought this was supposed to be a prequel called "Rise of the Akadian"... right? What's with the '2' if its a prequel? And why's it R-rated?
Also, is the Scorpion King the headshot guy on the cover, who's also that dude in that horrendously cheesy banner? Hope not. Or is he the younger one on the cover on the bottom? And if so, how come he's not the focus of the art?
Any and all interest I had in this as a fan of Stephen Sommers' Mummy films and as someone who can stomach the first Scorpion King has just evaporated completely.

Actually, it's the prequel to the prequel of the sequel to the remake of the original Mummy movie.
I find it funny. It's the sequel to the prequel to the sequel to the remake of the original Mummy movie. What could be better?
Say it ain't so... say it ain't so...
is this a joke? like...seriously...
