..if not there is always AMazon
I suppose it's too early for anyone to know if the player generated captions are still on this release as opposed to the burnt in one's. I need to replace my fogged up old MGM Special Ed anyway. Just out of interest, if someone was to give you the choice of watching any of the 3 (Hopkins) Hannibal films, which would you choose to watch. I only ask because when I was asked this question, the answer was Red Dragon. I'm not asking which film people think is the best, I'm asking which one you'd prefer to sit down to and watch again. Me choosing Red Dragon is, I'm sure to do with the fact that it's the one I've seen least (twice), but my favourite is Hannibal. Silence is a great film and beautifully constructed thriller but Hannibal scores higher for me because I prefer the overall tone. The cinematography the blackness of the comedy and performances. Over the top for certain and less realistic but a more enjoyable film. I read recently (Total Film interview)that Anthony Hopkins actually thinks Red Dragon is the best of the three. I'm aware that I'm excluding Manhunter from this. Manhunter is a completely different kettle of worms.
I'm buying this

I also perfer Red Dragon over Hannibal and Silence.

and Criterion has been allowing studios use thier bonus stuff on dvds like Raging Bull UE
cause the commentary on that was on the Criterion laser-disc

Nice! Though, I already own the Hannibal trilogy, and that has a SE for SOTL in there, so I'll take a pass on this.

i haven't seen Red Dragon (but i'm gona pick it)..so out of 2..i say SOTL was bether than Hanibal-couse it was more dark..just bether.

I thought Red Dragon was the most mediocre peice of fluff. I was so disapointed with it. Silence is a real classic, I enjoyed Hannibal for all its pulpy horror, and Manhunter is the superior adaptation of the Red Dragon novel, the way I see it.
Oy, vay! My Jewish luck prevails yet again! Just when I bought the U.S. special edition DVD, I find out about this deluxe set.
Boy-oh-boy, lotsa re-releases out of this series! I've already got two versions of Manhunter, three of SOTL, the 2-Disc releases of Hannibal and Red Dragon, and now this?
They HAVE to get rid of those darn freakin ratings on the front of the boxes. Just place them as stickers on the outside shrink wrap, don't keep ruining our artwork!
Looks like this is going to be the UK version of the Scandinavian Ultimate Edition. The 2nd disc of this set will have all the features of that set. Unfortunately, none of the Criterion content is likely to be on this set. Also, the transfer on the Scandinavian UE is missing a lot of the opening credits, hopefully they are going to be restored on this version. I hope I'm wrong about this set though, and while it will most likely have all the Scandinavian UE special features, I'd love to see a brand new transfer on here.

Anyone know the R1 release?

I'll stick with my Criterion edition thanks.

Don't get me wrong. I'm a Michael Mann fan and I appreciate Manhunter, I was just hypothetically wanting to exlude it, for not being one of the Hopkins Hannibal films, as I was interested in which of those films people enjoyed most without it falling into the usual 'which is technically best' debate. I wasn't meaning to imply or suggest that Manhunter wasn't worthy of inclusion. I just wanted to isolate it for the purposes of my question.

You hum it son, I'll play it.

Silence of the Lambs is considerably better IMO to all the other Lecter films. So therefore I'd choose to watch it again.
* Manhunter is decent but overrated IMO.
* Hannibal is dreadful, the comedy really got on my nerves. Lecter films should be dark!
* Red Dragon I also enjoyed but Brett Ratner really was the wrong choice. The man has zero ideas of his own.

Confirmed -no bloody commentary. Good job I have the Criterion disc.

I'm already happy with the MGM SE's AV quality.
