I hate the stupid prices for these DVDs. Other than that you know I can't wait to watch it again.
Way too pricey, I'll wait and for a sale price, But, ye I'll own the set as I own all of the previous seasons
Seriously, how come those cable shows are so expensive on DVD? i'm really curious. Sopranos, Six Feet Under, etc have their seasons on DVD costing around 80-100$ each, versus TV seasons for Cable networks (CBS,FOX,CBS,NBC etc) come out usually around 50$ and usually have almost twice the number of episodes! I'm not ranting here, I'm genuingly curious why. Is it because those DVD's cost more to make? I really have no idea.
I'm sure someone knows how it works!

$100 FOR HALF A SEASON! F**K THAT!!!!!!!!!
but remember it will be like $50 when it comes out.
I'll buy it to complete my whole collection

it may be a lot of money, but it's 12 episodes.
but if that ain't enough to sway you: shop at wal mart.
amazing show though... but I will wait for the gun-shaped 7 season box set.

I missed something. What's the part 1 business? The first five seasons came complete for $80. This was the most boring season yet, and I have to buy it in parts for twice the price?
Seriously, how many people watched this show every week and remarked, "wow, another episode where nothing happened." Build toward something, David Chase. The first two seasons were pretty outstanding, and the next three were pretty good but flawed and often too slow. This season was so uneventful... all I can remember is that Vito was gay. I can get that in Will & Grace, but with Sopranos I'd rather watch nifty criminal schemes, quasi-intelligent conversations on the issues of the day (in mobspeak), and people getting whacked!
I think Chase is still drunk on his initial success, thinks he's bulletproof, and hasn't yet sobered up to realize that if he doesn't start making compelling episodes we're going to whack the show's ratings. I really like the show, but my friend adored it, and now even he's conceding disappointment in recent seasons/episodes and the direction the shows going in.

I heard also that this season of the Sopranos is the first to come out in HD-DVD format.
A thought just occurred to me, though I'm probably wrong.
Is it possible that Part 1 refers to all of the last series of episodes, and Part 2 is that final set of episodes we're expecting to run in 2008?
This is 4 Discs, just like the previous seasons. Unless they're piling on the extras, I don't think half a season (six or seven episodes) would merit four discs. Then there's the fact (I think it's a fact) that the final episodes, to air in '08, aren't the typical full season (I heard ten instead of thirteen episodes), which suggests they might be an addendum to this sixth season rather than a seventh season in its own right. Finally, since season six lacked any sort of climactic conclusion perhaps that's just to indicate it's halftime and the season isn't over.
Just a thought. Anyone else heard a reason for this being "Part 1"?

Season Six of "The Sopranos" is 20 Episodes, in total.
12 of the twenty have already aired and make up this "Part I" DVD collection.
In March 2007, Part II will be the final 8 episodes of the entire series. I'm expecting Part II to have a ton of bonus features, or else HBO is going to be labeled "Pricks" in my book, because eight episodes are not worth $100, even though fans would still buy them because they are the last episodes.
Each episode of "The Sopranos" costs $15 Million dollars, whereas many network shows -- save for past megahits "Friends -- cost probably in the $2 Million dollar price range.
So just for these twelve episodes, HBO has spent $180 Million dollars, not including publicity, dvd production, blah, blah, blah, etc. So, I can see why these are so expensive. It's an expensive show and each episode -- to me -- is like a mini-movie. So, it's like buying 6 brand new films in a boxset (two episodes, length-wise) and that won't be cheap.

<and should set you back around $99.98>
Like buying this for that much is a matter of convenience? Hah. This is only pt.1 of the season.

One of my favorite tv shows, will buy this to complete my collection. I'll probably get it much cheaper at a Sam's Club type place to combat that price though. I do admit however, this season was definitely the weakest, although a weak Sopranos is better than most other television any day. My favorite cover still remains the fourth season.
People shouldn't be complaining about the prices of these TV series' on DVD. I mean it sucks that Sapranos season six will be sold in two parts, but a 2h movie on dvd that contains 1 disc usually starts at about $26.99. These seasons contain 4-6 disc, and the feature running time is usually 5-8 times thatb of a DVD movie-so what's the problem- you are getting what you paid for.
$100 for 4 discs is outrageous. Look at movie sets and most that are 3-4 discs aren't near that price range. Look at the multi-disc single movie releases. The sadest thing is that there's little work putting these shows on DVD, it's not like there's a lot of extras to bump it up that high.
I just bought the first season used, and after the first show I returned it. I understand it's popular, but I could barely finish watching the first show. Since it was rated 9.3 on tv.com, I figure the series just isn't for me.

No one answered my question still!
Why is there such a big price gap between normal tv networks (CBS,NBC,FOX,ABC etc)DVDs and Cable network (HBO,FX,Showtime etc) DVDs such as the Sopranos and Six Feet Under? When usually normal TV DVD's have more episodes and are less expensive. I mean a Six Feet Under season comes out right away at like 80$ for 12ish episodes when a show like Lost comes out right away at around 50-60$ and has almost double the episodes. i'm really curious here!

In response to your question Jonno2006, I think it is because the production value on HBO type shows is THAT much higher than that of regular shows. Take the Sopranos for example, each episode is highly expensive to make (and it does indeed show, I regard each episode as a mini movie type piece) and as a result, HBO charges a lot of money for its dvds to recuperate some of the costs it spends on the actors/music licensing. Looking at each episode as a mini-movie, the prices (while still slightly absurd) aren't terribly out of the ball park. Hope that helps, Jonno.....
They already used silver for season 4...I feel cheated.
It makes sense I guess. Thanks Slim! :D

So then where does the HBO subscriber's money go to?

Artwork now added for a HD DVD release...
Could it have killed them to make the artwork for the Season consistent with the previous DVD releases? I guess that's asking too much.
That reb bar going down the right side of the HD set really looks like @$$!!!
Never
Wow, regular price for half a season. HBO is ridiculous.
It's just one episode shorter than a regular season. This season is 20 episodes & this particular DVD has 12 of them on it.

Yeah, I don't get people's frustration over the pricing of the regular DVD edition. Like you said, it's 12 episode, one short of a regular seaosn. Yet, there seems to be this stigma left over from the Sex and the City sets where people just nay say a half season package.
Sadly this is HBO's new money making scheme, we have to deal with it. Entourage will be doing the same thing this year.

Ok,I know It's expensive but there is no reason why the Hd-DVD be even more so.Correct me if I'm rong but excluding the cost of producing the shows, series on DVD are expensive because of their high number of Cd's,so If HD-DVD can carry more information the number of CD's decreases. So Why must it be more expensive than the DVD version when It's less CD's?Heck that's one of the things that attracts me more towards HD-less number of Cd's to change.I know an HD DVD is more expensive to make that a regular DVD one,but since It requires less CD's I think HD comes out cheaper in the cost of producing these series.
Eeek, that box on the Hd-dvd is horrible looking, that sidebar is cartoony looking.
How many discs are on the HD set? Also, that HD banner ruins the awesome cover art. Also, to beat a dead horse, the pricing is rediculous.
