i love this film, but I have the single disc... I was thinking on getting the 2 discs edition... I'm sure that one will have a free ticket for the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning"
yeah, I'm gonna be the first one to go see it...

It better not do! No link is wanted.

Nice, but why not buy the HD version. Seen a comparison between the DVD and HD transfer and it's _alot better_
Dave, agree with you on the quality thing. TCM s'pose to look gritty.
But don't count on a ticket to the prequel, aside from theatrically re-releasing it back in the 80's, I don't think New Line has much to do with the original. They didn't jump on the TCM wagon until part three.

A good HD transfer would allow those of us who love the film to actually be as real as the original the documentary like effects will be there in all of their shining glory in a good HD transfer... Holefully HD-DVD!!
ive never seen this but I love the remake and I'm definatly gonna c the prequel to the remake!
Original = Cult Horror Classic
Remake = Studio trash trying to cash in on the horror fad currently going on
Prequel = Studio decided that they could do even worse and still get a profit so they said "what the hell, let's do it"

Yes.
And am I not mistaken or is this not the technical fourth release?
Those previous being:
Original poster art cover
Shiny foil saw blade 30th anniversary
Ground chuck beef packaging
now this?
Madness.

YESSS!!!!!! I nought the one disc special edition when it first came out, but I will still buy this this is gonna kik AZZ CANT WAIT FOR ART WORK!!!!!
I don`t have this yet, so I`ll definately pick up this release when It arrives. To me, this film is the scariest and all around best horror film I`ve ever seen. The Michael Bay produced remake was utter trash.

Pretty sure those are the same edition, just one had limited edition packaging.
Anyway, each of Pioneer's previous releases have been okay at best, but the transfer on each was somewhat lacking--even for a film this gritty and shot on 16mm--since they crammed all of the features of those previous discs AND the movie on a single-layer, DVD-5 disc.
If some of Dark Sky Film's recent releases, such as Anthony Hopkins in Magic, are any indication then this should be a package that finally does the film justice.

I like the german one thats shaped like an 18" chainsaw, though I haven't bought it... Oh, and CHAINSAW is one word.
I AM SO GETTING THIS.

That's a common misconception; for the original film it is indeed 'Chain Saw', but each sequential film uses the compound 'Chainsaw'.
Love how some folks are so quick to point out the mistakes of others.

I just realized, if and when I buy this - it'll be the third edition of the film on DVD I own. Wouldn't mind doing a comparison of the three transfers. Should see quite a bit of difference, I'm assuming.
Yes
Since this edition is not being released by New Line Cinema, there will be no cross-promoting for the new film from New Line & Platinum Dunes (mainly free tickets). New Line did re-release the original film theatrically in the 80s, and possibly a VHS release. But never have they released Tobe Hooper's original on DVD. The only TCMs they own the rights to are "Leatherface: TCM3", the 2003 remake, and the upcoming prequel to the remake. Honestly, the prequel doesn't seem all that different from the remake, but it looks to be a good enough horror flick to check out for me.

I'm hoping there's a Region 2 release.
Ha, ha, I know what the art work looks like!!!

Matt, would it be okay if I posted a link to the cover???
i know this is a stupid question but do you need a hd dvd player to get the best possible picture for this or do you just need a hd tv to watch it on or is it both?
i own the r2 2disc special edition so would this be worth double dipping for? is anyone else with the r2 se going to buy this?
wow... I never could understand why everyone hated the remake so much... while I don't think is was the greatest film ever made, I personally thought it was a lot better then nearly every other horror film i've seen in the past few years.... (okay, let's make it like in the past decade.)
but, then again i'm no expert on horror films.... I used to be, but that was in the '80s.

I loved the remake more than the original. are Lee Ermey gave the remake a lot of personality. I found the original boring with the annoying cripple and the god awful screaming through out the last twenty minutes of movie.
I'm hoping the prequel will be as entertaining.
Don't hate me.
P.S. The Omen 2006 sucked.

Remake was great, far as remakes go. It's lightyears better than TCM 2, Leatherface, and The Next Generation, mind you. Here's to the prequel...
But the remake doesn't touch the greatness nor had the impact that the original had.

The saw blade and the ground chuck were the same release. The chuck was a slipcover over the saw. These were just repackagings anyway. The disc was exactly the same. It was a transfer from the Pioneer laserdisc. This is the first time we're getting a different release. It also includes everything from that original Pioneer release as well as a wealth of new material.
If you can find it, you should also get the DVD Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Family Reunion. It's a feature-lengtyh documentary on the making of the original film.

Do we really need HD transfers of a film like this? This is rough ragged film making that's meant to look like the complete opposite of friggin HD!
