That Carpenter commentary might just be a world exclusive.

Okay, THIS is weird. Are you sure this is the 1951 classic? That one was called THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, more or less, as opposed to Carpenter's remake, but... The original Thing neither creeped nor crawled. In the US, Warner Bros., not Universal, owns the '51 version; not sure about the UK. And no offense, but I can think of a lot of folks from whom I would rather hear commentary on this film than John Carpenter, if it is the original.

It's obviously the original, it says so in giant shiny letters. They've just grabbed Carpenter to do a commentary because he did the remake and the artwork/tagline are just playing on that. There's a two-pack coming out with both this and Carpenter's version a bit later in the month.
Great cover apart from the horrible white lettering! I hope they change that.

What a great film! Some people actually think Welles wrote some of the dialogue...true or not, it's still a benchmark sci-fi film. And I'd love to hear Carpenter's commentary.
I found some details about this edition:
Universal Pictures are releasing two creature features from its sci-fi classics collection. Howard Hawks’ pioneering sci-fi shocker The Thing From Another World, on the 18th March 2007, for an RRP of £15.99. And the Tremors Box Set featuring all four films in the series, creeping onto DVD on the 5th March 2007, for an RRP of £19.99. Later remade by John Carpenter in a gorier version, this is the definitive original. John Carpenter provides an exclusive audio commentary and the 2 DVD edition features a restored print and a colourised version.

Carpenter commentary, huh? Sigh...looks like Amazon UK will be getting some more of my loose change.

You obviously haven't listened to any of Carpenter's many commentary tracks then as they are some of the best going and the sole reason I'd import this set. This is one of his all-time favorites flicks, if not right at the top, and I'm definitely interested in hearing his in depth thoughts on it.

Cool - looks good so far - let's hope the other extras are worth it.
