It's widescreen only. Technically the alternative would be pan and scan, not full-screen, because even though they were shot in Super-35 some cropping of the image would still occur if the ratio was changed to 4:3. Watching films in the wrong aspect ratio is bad.
I have a quick question and if someone could answer it fast that would be grand but yea i was wondering if this box set comes out in fullscreen or just widescreen?
I'm sure he's referring to the new transfer. I've got the set now, and it's mighty impressive. The packaging is very nice to look at, although not very practical as it arrived with one of the retention clips already snapped off...
The new transfer for The Matrix is swimply stunning. It really does breathe new life into the film. It's almost on a par with the Reloaded and Revolutions transfers, so improved is it over the original release.
The DVD-Rom features list bonus commentaries, but when clicked the links just go to the Warner hompage. I guess the content isn't online yet as the set isn't officially out until next week. Hopefully the tracks will include Keanu and company.

Quote: Any word on whether or not we'll ever see a Matrix (just the first movie) two disc special edition? I think that's what's holding me up from jumping on this set.
Isnt there already a 2 Disc Special Edition that contains The Matrix and The Matrix Revisited in 1 Set or do you mean a 2 Disc Edition with the new transfer of the film?

w00t!
I have the matrix, revisited, reloaded (wide & full), revolutions and the animatrix and I'm buying this :D
The extras look fantastic, I've been waiting a while for this, its finally near. I'm absolutely stoked about this.
I'm a matrix freak and I'll triple dip if I have too. YAY!
EDIT--
can we expect a review of this set anytime soon?
and while I'm asking, can we expect a seinfeld review anytime soon too?

Julien, I wish America was as open minded when it comes to nudity. It's pretty sad that Janet Jackson's freakin' nipple caused a national outrage here. We all have freakin' nipples! I love a violent movie as much as the next guy, but violence is a much more serious matter than nudity. That said, I agree with Chris that adults should have a choice as to what they want to watch, as long as it isn't, say, an actual snuff film or something.
rating in France
Hi
whats cool here in France is that we don't make a big deal about nudity. I mean, it's natural you know. In a lot of country it's ok to see a guy been killed in a very bad way by another one, but when you have to see the natural beauty of one georgous woman, it's not possible . isn't it strange ??
I laugh a lot when i see movie, when with see a american tennager whatching a movie and say "i saw a nipple !". "dude",as he will say, come here, in France and just watch TV commercial. You ll see women naked for anything, a BIO Yoghourt (is it the right spelling), or for a Shampoo, etc.
sorry i am off topic. Just wanted to say that we are not that bad in France. lol
About the matrix trilogy, i had the three movie, but lost the first one a long time ago. Don't know if ll buy the set. Maybe too much bonus kill the bonus.

They should change the animatrix menus

And here in Australia even the Un-rated cut gets a rating! Weird, huh....
Ratings are lame
Here here, Chris. They're having big problems with European films getting NC-17 ratings here lately (like Young Adam, and Bad Education because they have *gasp* NUDITY in them). If you get an NC-17, (almost)no one will exhibit your film, nor will (almost) anyone advritise it. It is nice to live in a country where I can choose to buy Ninja Turtles on DVD in 1999, and I did. I love that movie.
Can't wait...
I sell all my previous DVDs for that, and I'm sure I'll be happy!
Loved all the movies and the Anime. I'm not the greater Matrix Fan but I really love the saga and the story. Reloaded and Revolution are, in my opinion, very great. The story as a double sence when you watch it several times, and I loved this!

Bear in mind we only just got Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles too.. we used to have Hero Turtles before as apparently ninjas are too violent or something. And the one with the nunchuks (sp?) is now allowed those back asthe BBFC seem to have relaxed their view on connected sticks with a chain.
"IF YOU SEE VIOLENCE ON TV YOU MIGHT DO IT YOURSELF. FACT."
Also, you need full kevlar armour to play conkers.. apparently..

Since at the moment I only have vhs copies of the first two films, I am very much looking foward to the new DVD set (in Widescreen, the way it's meant to be viewed).
I shall get this, but not this side of Christmas. Unless I get it for Christmas... heh.
I'd only get The Matrix and The Animatrix. I found the sequels to be garbage.
I'm getting this for Christmas. Even though I own the first one on tape, the sequels on DVD, and The Animatrix on DVD. I loved The Matrix movies so this is a must buy for me. I don't double dip often or at all. But for this (all those features) I will.

One word - money. It's the same as the US in that respect. The lower the rating, the more people can come and see it. The only difference is that over here it's a legal thing, whereas the US ratings system is voluntary (as I understand it). That's why you guys get unrated cuts with stuff that would never pass the censors in the UK.
Having said that, the BBFC has relaxed its policy somewhat in recent years. Personally I'm of the opinion that adults over the age of 18 should be allowed to watch whatever they want, without some moral guardian telling them what is 'safe'.

I'm waiting till they re-release The Matrix, because I don't feel the need or want to have the sequels or the countless discs with a bunch of nerds sayin 'ooo look what we can do with computers'.
You're right Chris, it isn't harmless. I'm just use to hearing problems with sex scenes and graphic violence, so I was a little confused. I suppose random machine gunning of innocent cops is a little over the top, and the movie does earn its 'R' rating. Is there any reason they can't put the headbutts back in and just rate it '18' in the UK? I'm really interested with the whole multi-regional ratings thing. I wish there was a book.
I'd hardly call it 'harmless', seeing as it features the cold-blooded murder of dozens of innocent people. Anyway, they cut head butts, because the BBFC have a thing about them (imitable techniques).
wait,wait,wait...
They cut the Matrix in the UK? It was such a harmless film, what did they cut?
I have put off on buying Reloaded and Revolutions because I knew a Boxset was coming so getting this 10 Disc Set is great value for money but I am still holding off pre-ordering it until I find out if the UK R2 release has The Matrix uncut. If it is still cut then I will go for the R1 or R4 Edition.
No thanks. I only have the Animatrix though. I enjoyed the first two movies but haven't even seen the third one.
I like the menus.
I like the menus.
I'm buying this, even though I have all three movies, because of the commentary track from the philosophers, which I've heard is fascinating and really meaty, and the cut scenes from the video game, which I don't have. Also, the new transfer for the first movie looks amazing.
Something else to keep in mind. The WB has jumped on the HD-DVD bandwagon. You know a new HD edition of these movie will be coming out sometime with in the next few years. I'll wait until they put these DVDs out again in HD-DVD; Or if Blue-Ray is the winner, then Blue-ray
Bonus is no matter what the format wins, DTS is the audio standard! =-)

Hopefully they will release the original film and its new transfer seperatley in the near future; I'd really like to get it but if purchasing this set is the only way I can they can keep it and I'll just stick to my original disc.
Nice menus for all the extras, but I'm going to stick with what I have.
Thought they would have inserted those Reloaded extra scenes though.
Or atleast have a "branching option.

Yep, and they are quite boring scenes too... just endless dialogue.

They've done a bit more than that. It's a new digital transfer, and it looks a lot closer to the sequels in terms of quality now. Suits that appeared brown before, now appear grey (as they should). Contrast is much better and the brightness has been altered. There also appears to be more detail in the image.

They're not deleted scenes as such, merely the footage from the Enter the Matrix video game. They were originally announced as being re-inserted into Reloaded, but this is not the case. They are separate from the film.

Yeah, basically you would be buying 60% of what you already have. I wouldnt buy this myself, but I stuck it on my christmas list so hopefully someone will buy it for me.

If there are, then... maybe. I know what I read at the top of the page says deleted scenes, but I have read elsewhere that there are not any. Even Amazon's site, linked through this page, does not mention the extra scenes. Is there an official anouncement about the contents of the movie being just a new tranfer, or with new scenes added?

To me, this is just a pricey double dip, with nothing to replace what I already have.

Will they offer these DVDs individually, or do you have to buy the whole set? I see no reason to buy them over again except for The Matrix. I would like to get that new digital transfer into my collection. =-)

The images.
It isn't just you Liran. I can make out most of the images but the text is really hard to read.
is it me, or are most of these pictures too dark to make out?
None
I can't wait to get this set. I sold my Matrix set and have been waiting for this. Won't bother with the limited edition version though.
