Definitely going to pick this up. Looks interesting.
I was anticipating it, and apart from the first two episodes, I was very disappointed. And with the insanely high IMDb rating I'm in a vast majority. I just found the majority of the characters a bit bland and uninteresting (I had a hard time catching any of their names except for Shane and Andrea). It's quite well done but I think it just lacks good storylines as well as suspense. I think it could've worked better as a full feature length movie, but it still has potential. I'll definitely tune in for season two, especially since Darabont fired his writing staff, so here's hoping for stronger scripts.
djblack1313, I agree about the particular scene in episode 5. One of the best parts of the series, post pilot.

I love this show, so far. It has developed and empathetic characters who are well acted, a mostly refreshing plot (quibbles include characters having to go into the city after leaving it because someone was left behind), tense situations, and the production in general is incredibly convincing. I especially like how the first episode at one point aims to make viewers feel sorry for the zombies, at least apparently. It worked for me. I definitely might buy the Blu-ray.
Yeah I'm glad I watched on TV because this is too high a price for 6 episodes. Now I'll grant you the show is not superb. however I do like it. I don't like zombie movies, except Zombieland ha ha. It's always the same c**p. Run from zombies. This is more like if "Jericho" had been about zombies. The Zombies are the back part of the plot, but the character's interactions and survival story are the real hook. Also on a horny note I am stunned that Sarah Wayne Callies has been in her underwear more times in 6 episodes than the whole damn Prison Break run. Seriously though, this first season isn't perfect, but it's a start. Maybe wait on this set until closer to the season 2 premiere in fall 2011. Between now and then, this will go on sale
damn that is pricey for a 2 disc blu ray set
Great, great television. I love that they have Greg Nicotero onboard as a consulting producer. With Madmen, Boardwalk Empire and Walking Dead, I can't remember a time when I was enjoying TV more.
Love love loved it!

6 episodes to me is a mini series. This isn't the UK. We've had enough shows go from 26 Episodes to 13 like Doctor Who. We don't need shows to be 6-7 episodes now like the UK's Jekyl and so may others. The show was OK. It had it's moments. Nothing new or ground breaking for me.
I finished watching the entire run on AMC and I liked it alot. Maybe 2 of the 6 episodes were just mediocre, but overall it was a pretty satisfying experience. As far as the DVD/BR release goes, I am interested, but the bonus material has to be outstanding like audio commentaries on every episode and maybe an extensive making of documentary.

i REALLY like this show but the writing needs to be tightened up BIG TIME. so far i love the pilot and ep 5 "Wildfire" (watching the "rebirth" of a certain character turn into a zombie was incredible and amazingly done). the finale was quite bad though. i'm very excited for season 2.
and i agree w/ Triefy. for that much $$$, the bonus features better be amazing and they better be included in the REGULAR DVD package (as well as BR) or i will stick with what i already have.

Good series....but I hope in the future it pulls more from the books then going off and doing it's own thing. If it strays any farther....this could turn into another "Resident Evil".
I'll be quite honest..As much as I dug the series, none of the future episodes reached the emotional level of the pilot.
I think the second season is going to have not only a lot to live up to, but they are essentially starting anew. The hardcore horror fans, like myself, will be watching next October, but the mainstream TV Viewing Audience kept hearing about this series and checked it out - especially on the subpar season finale. I fear that since the series went downhill - not much - from the first episode that it won't be as big as AMC is thinking it will be.
They really should have Darabont direct more of the episodes though, he definitely made an amazing pilot episode which sets the bar for other episodes to meet.
Also, if the price is $35 for a Blu-Ray for 6 episodes, the special features better be packed to the gills. You can spend that kind of money on a TV season with double the amount of episodes.

Agree with Marcus, it is a good show and I watched it all, but I don't feel hooked (yet) so to speak.
As a first series this was solid as an adaptation from the comics, it felt a bit like a non event for me. Still be picking this up though. Especially if they stick to having the pilot in black and white.
Never seen what the big deal was with this show you seen one zombie movie you seen them all .I'll pass .

Only saw the first episode and I enjoyed it. I heard the conclusion was so so though. Great cover art.
so when is the release date??
Really glad they stuck with that for the cover art.
Nice. That was quick for AMC. I'm guessing the distribution companies have something to do with how long it takes to put a season of their shows out. Breaking Bad is Sony and Mad Men is Lionsgate. Looks like Anchor Bay picked up Walking Dead. Good for them.
Very entertaining series...BR buy for me.
