While I too think the MSRP is ridiculous, it is way less than you would pay for the individual releases bought together. The packaging is very nice as well. A definite pick-up for me.
blue ray?
I'm actually really glad I have picked up the season sets already.
The individual DVDs have much better artwork and this complete set has the discs in cardboard sleeves that scratch the discs (fact).

Im sure it be nice for some people. I paid $115 for all 5 seasons so I'm happy with that. Anyway...when it comes to these HBO sets...theyre just so big that they dont fit well on the shelf. The only one that Ive seen that works alright is Six Feet Under. Id rather just stick to the individual. Although this does look very nice.

115$? You got a sweet deal. I payed 200$, but then again I got the DVDs when they were originally released and the prices were higher.

Um...fact I have owned The West Wing complete series for years and not one disc is scratched...sounds like buyers remorse. Can't wait for this come out...

Not at all. I'm very happy with the season sets. Anyway, there was a massive problem with the complete Alias DVD set a few years back (discs were scatched to hell because of the packaging, almost everybody had the problem). Some people have also had problems with the complete SG-1 & X-Files series sets.
Also, can you honestly tell me that the artwork doesn't look boring as hell?

Honestly, I can tell you that the only great packaging for the Wire's single season sets was Season 5. I like simple packaging like this I always think it looks best. It's one of the advantage of some of the complete series sets. And please can we not mention The Wire and Alias in the same post again...
It seems like in most cases when these complete series sets come out people always find something wrong with them because they bought the single season sets, which I totally understand. However, don't try and say that if you had not bought the single season sets and the complete series came out you would buy them anyway.

Was I in any way comparing Alias and The Wire? No, I wasn't. I also have legitimate reasons for being weary of this sort of packaging.
If I hadn't picked up the single seasons already then I would consider this, but only if it's cheaper than the single season sets. I personally really dig the artwork of the single season DVDs, HBO made the right choice by using the original promo posters as covers.
At the moment no new extras have been announced for this boxset so I can honestly say that I don't have any reason to want this set instead of the ones I already own.

I don't own any of the seasons yet (I have seen, and love the show though) but I'm not sure if I'm going to pick this up or buy the season sets once they drop to $19.99 like the Six Feet Under sets did after the complete series set was released.
Although, I'm sure that if I wait I'll be able to pick this up for about $100-150 sometime in the next year or two.
Nice packaging though, a little wide, but it probably won't take up much more room than the five seasons sets.

Yea. I got the first four season from Amazons deal of the day for $95. And then I Used the $20 or $25 (whatever it was) coupon from Bill Me Later to get season 5
This was clearly inevitable, but now that I've seen it, I'm glad I didn't wait. I also bought the first four seasons through Amazon for $95... Now I'm just waiting for the inevitable Black Friday sale where Season 5 will be $27.49 like the others were last year... I honestly can't justify buying this monstrosity of a box set. Heck, I even picked up the Complete X-Files ($165 Amazon Deal of the Day) and MASH ($95 Amazon Deal of the Day) Collections for less than this.
Big fan of the show, not a fan of that packaging...it's a bit drab, not a lot of colour and the discs are in cardboard sleeves, yikes! I imagine it'll retail for $199.99 or less, they've gotta make as cheap (or cheaper) than buying all of the sets individually...unless there is an amazing bonus disc you can only get with the set.

nice to see no added discs/bonus features. no buyer's remorse! whee!
An absolutely amazing show. The hype is completely true, this show changed my life in many ways. An absolute masterpiece.
And as for the added features, David Simon (the shows creator) has already confirmed there will be added Bloopers (and probably Deleted Scenes) and while that doesnt sound a lot, i'm sure there will be some other stuff on there too, I mean why add JUST bloopers? Those short "prequels" that came out around Season 5 are also a good bet to be on there.
No matter what, I'm picking this sweet baby up!

Seems kind of expensive considering each set goes for $19.99-$29.99 depending where you look.
What a rip off. Sure, the show is a masterpiece, but come on HBO..
it far too expensive to put extras on to dvd, that why there hardly any on the 1-5 seasons of the show
