I have some interest, I'll rent it.
Good movie. But in the end just a dirtier version of Rocky Balboa.
So few extras! Love the movie, but I'll wait for the special edition. Hopefully there'll be one, I'm still waiting for something more for The Fountain...
Er no, the Rocky franchise are over the top ridiculously unrealistic boxing films full of two dimensional characters. The Wrestler is about two people coming together as they realize their out living their own usefulness, so a little more depth than say, watching rocky using his head to defend himself Emil Ryderup. Looking forward to this Blu-Ray release.

Hopefully it keeps the poster art.
I had doubts about Aronofsky pulling this one off, since the material is so different from his usual films. But I was blown away, incredible performance by Rourke in a very emotional film.
And while everyone is talking about Rourke you must not forget Marisa Tomei also gave a great performance in this as well. I hope Rourke keeps picking good projects, and his come back can one day be fully awarded.

Without giving much away for those who haven't seen it, the grocery store scenes really had that Aronofsky-feel to it.
A good film to rent although I'll probably won't pick it up and add it to the other films by Darren. More interested in this re-editing The Fountain he mentioned in an interview...or at least a Criterion Collection release of The Fountain.

Fine performances from both Rourke and Tomei, great directing and film = sale. One of 2008's best films imo.
a must have !
Hopefully he records a commentary and releases it online like he did for The Fountain - now THAT'S a film that needs a major special edition release.
A remarkable film with two of the best acting performances of last year. I'll be coping the Blu-ray on release day.....
You can kind of compare this to Charlize Theron's Monster; both were small films, with the main actor giving one of the best performances in film in years...but this movie is better developed, just much better than you'd expect from an 'independent' or small film.
I'm just sad that the academy awards overlooked this and Gran Torino. A definite buy, even with the slim extras, just to see 'The Ram'...oh, and no comparison with Rocky, at all...this wins in a heartbeat...

I find Rocky and Rocky Balboa (exluding the tacky fight) to be as good as Wrestler. I don't think Wrestler is a bad film, it's great. But watching it I felt it was very smiliar to Rocky Balboa, only not as "light" but dirtier, filthier and some tits trown in.
So, it was worth the theatreticket but not unique enough for me to not compare it to Rocky Balboa.

Hands down my pick for best film...I can't wait to pick this one up on blu!
Will be getting it, not sure yet though as to what version
Great movie.
Rourke was ripped off and should have won the Oscar. Hollywood pandered to a particular group this year and totally abandoned a much better acting performance. Even Brad Pitt did a better acting job than Penn. Actually, Penn's performance was the weakest of the 5 nominated. Rourke's performance was amazing and once you see it, you will agree.

What a great and affecting film that was totally screwed over for a Best Picture nomination! This was definitely better than The Reader and Frost/Nixon and Mickey totally deserved Best Actor. I will definitely be buying the blu-ray.
Great movie! Will definitely buy it.
Though I'm glad Penn won Best Actor. Mickey was fantastic, but so was Penn. Both would have been very deserving. Of course, now that Penn won everyone is going to turn on MILK and his performance. Predictable. Everyone should be turning on Slumdog Millionaire, which is the most overrated film of the year. The Wrestler should have taken its spot in Best Picture, Best Director, etc...

Looking forward to seeing this one, missed it in the cinema. But if those scant features are replicated over here then I will wait to pick it up as an ex-rental. Have to save the cents somehow.

Agreed about everything you said. I like Slumdog, it's good, but it's not the best of the year IMO. Penn and Rourke were both fantastic, both deserved to win, but only one can.
The ending is perfect IMHO, Spoiler whether or not he die after the jump, is irrelevant. Because, no matter what, Ram's home is inside the ring, even if he survives the jump, he would continue to wrestle regardless, since that's the only thing that makes him feel belongs. He has nothing else to live for outside the ring.

I'm always glad to see another soul gets that. So many people think the ending is depressing, or even "wrong" because they insist on seeing things a certain way, with regard to life in general, as well as Randy's in particular.

Missed it in the movies - a rent for me.
Artwork added
I'm not positive...but I might dig this artwork. It's not the image I expected, but still, well done. And well done on not cluttering it the hell up with "nominated for blah blah blah".
What in the f**k is going on with that cover?
they shoulda just kept the poster art for this one. Good movie though, not sure if I want to buy it though.
WTF?! this is the worst artwork i've ever seen.whats wrong with this one?
