I really liked the unique "X" logo they made just for this movie, and I especially liked the teaser posters. The ones that had a long road tinted in various colors, saying either "Fight." "Future." or "Fight the future." with a huge X in the sky...I remember when I first saw the "Fight." poster I was thinking it was X-Men lol.
yeah i mentioned something similar before, not just the X but the whole title had a cool "this isnt tv, its a movie" sorta font going...it was pretty cool. and i loved those teaser posters, this box set they had made for the VHS version of the movie came with mini versions of those posters, i still have it. lol
as for the moving not aging well....i've seen it a number of times over the years so its always been fresh in my mind so i think it still stands up. while i could understand those who accused it of simply being a "longer episode" , i also thought it totally felt theatrical.
oh and regarding the original poster, this blu-ray seems to contain the bottom part of the DVD art, though colored blue instead of red. but the actual original theatrical poster looked nothing like that. the movie score (not the soundtrack with Filter etc..) used the original poster, as did a making-of book that was released around the same time.
anyway....dec 2nd cant come soon enough, both movies on beautiful blu-ray....hoorah.

I just watched this movie on DVD a couple months back. I hadn't seen it since it first came out in theaters.
Does anyone else this this movie hasn't stood the test of time very well? To me it looked a little aged, mainly in the way in was shot and the way the dialogue was written. It seemed like it was trying to hard to be dramatic, when it really wasn't necessary to be. And I loved this movie when it first came out, I was fanatic about it and thought it was a work of art.

That cover art IS the poster art - just colored differently and elements moved around. I dig it... and once I get a BR player, this is going to be the first disc I pick up! Hooray for "X-Files" gag reels!!
I will be picking this up for sure.
The cover is excellent -- far better than the previous effort. I'm surprised to see people complaining about it. I guess some prefer something a bit less subtle, with some floating heads or a big explosion.

That was technically the second release that ported over all the extras, but included an anamorphic transfer and the DTS audio. The first DVD was released in 1998 as one of Fox's earlier, yucky non-anamorphic platters.
I still have the first edition and would've gotten the second version instead, had it not been OOP.

well it wasn't completely bare, like it didnt literally have nothing. but all it contained were 3 trailers and a 20-25min making of special from television. it was long overdue some decent extras, i was expecting a little more based on what spotnitz said but still, this is all good. even if i didnt own a blu-ray player, i'd definately rebuy the regular dvd if they released like this.
as for the DTS track, they actually released it without one at first and then something like a year later re-released it with the DTS. i was one of the unlucky few who got the first version. lol

But this would be a great buy, if only I didn't own previous release, and the one that comes with the complete boxset...

Get them both for sure. But this movie is better then the 2nd. Don't know what chris was thinking when he made the 2nd. X-files fans wanted aliens or monsters. But he didn't deliver that. If he delivered that i am almost 100% sure that the 2nd one had been a hit in the theaters
Awesome! I will get both 1 and 2 on Dec. 2nd then!
hmmm interesting cover, not sure if I like it or not. But I will definately get this and the 2nd movie on BD! I love the X-Files!!
Nice cover! I never saw this and been wanting too, I've see it many times on the Walmart dvd bin but never actually picked it up, and am glad I didn't...this is either a blind-buy or a rental.
*looks more closely at BD extras*
Oh, the gag reel IS on there. I should've read it more closely.

I fought the future...and the future won...NOOOOOOOOO!
The Blu-ray artwork looks horrible. What was wrong with the original artwork for the regular DVD releases? Maybe Fox is trying for a different scheme to match with the sequel's Blu-ray artwork.
And they didn't include the gag reel for the Blu-ray release? It was leaked online, but didn't surface on the DVD releases either.

Saw the second movie without seeing this,I must see this now!!!
wow i hate to be a "cover whiner" but thats one c**ppy cover. and here comes the nitpicky part of me, what bothers me most is the font..yes i'm sad. lol
its nice that they used the same font as the 2nd movie so they go together but i woulda preferred the original movie font. i figured the cover would be the dvd cover or something similar, this is totally new and pretty c**ppy.
but in the end it doesnt matter, what matters is that the movie is coming to blu-ray and actually has some special features...hoorah.

Hopefully there'll be a re-release (a better one) of this movie on regular DVD.
I'll just pick this one up. Didn't like the sequel one bit.
Ah-hah!

Cheers Tom, delighted to see there are new features for this release. Have the original spec edition on Dvd which I will keep but will get this along with IWTB.
I'm sure FTF will be re-released on Dvd but as Tom's article says a lot of those features are BD Exclusive. Sure glad I invested in that PS3.

Damn...I hope they plan on re-releasing it on REGULAR DVD, too, but with the same special features (to replace the bare-bones one out[-of-print] now).
It's about time! I'll be picking this up at the same time as the new movie!
