I love that blu-ray artwork. I'll double-dip for sure!
I personally liked the cross poster, but it's cool. This is a must buy, for me. There was only one better movie than this one (and this is my opinion of course) Citizen Kane...yes it is/was that good.
They've done it right in this blu-ray release...al extras in HD, and all the extras from the SD here...
Not sure about that Blu cover at all. Waiting to see what the UK disc ends up with.
I like the Blu Art, while it's not a masterpiece of an artwork, it's sure as hell respectable. The movie itself, well... I'd say it's bloody awesome!!!
Blu art's definitley the best. Not as good as my friend's cover depicted in my sig. :-D
The Blu-Ray artwork is by far the best of the bunch. The only way it could have been better is if they used the "Bible" teaser poster art, like on the inside of the 2Disc packaging.
worst artwork of the bunch... BD should have been the poster art like the single disc DVD.
Finally, I can add this fine movie to my collection. On High Def!
pink fonts on the BD artwork? Ehhh anyways am glad to see this title on High Def, that Cinematography is gonna look stunning. The front cover is great too.
p.s Dolby TruHD? Count me in!

Yeah, I hear ya. That's one of the main reasons I didn't blind buy this...terrible packaging.
Gee, I wonder if were getting the BD in a retarded envelope like we did the standard ::rolls eyes::
They don't specify, so we're listing it as region A to be on the safe side. However, all of their back catalogue titles were all regions.
Do anyone know if paramount is releasing BD regionfree?
I would say it would be weird if the coded them because the stood by HD-DVD

I really liked this movie - but I don't think I will get this as for me I think it will have lost its splendour...

It has to be, since its not released by Touchstone, even though Miramax it the second founder of its production. The studio with the most rights is Paramount Vantage. So of course that BD cover art is false.

Great news. Hopefully the package isn't made out of straw or something.
Good thing that now I won't have to pick up a much more expensive BD release from Germany, just gonna pick up the US BD!
Hearing about the packaging really annoys me, would've been awesome if it was packaging like the Deer Hunter SE.
Amazing Movie! I loved Daniel Day-Lewis, he did an excellent job in this movie. This is now my new favorite movie! The music was awesome, Very Suspenseful!
I just got the 2 disc DVD for There Will Be Blood and it is a must have. The packaging is made recycled material almost like parchment paper.
Two Disc which is the one I ordered. The Extras include 15 Minutes of pics, research, ETC., Trailers, Fishing sequence, Haircut/ Interrupted Hymm, Dailies Gone Wold and THE STORY OF PETROLEUM (ea 1923). Also has 2 deleted scenes in it.
Paul Thomas Anderson (The Director) hand picked all the images for the packaging on both versions
This is a must have if you are a Gangs Of New York Fan

That's from Hong Kong. UGH. You got me all excited.
Better picture of the 2-disc.
Better picture of the 2-disc.
Blu-ray Version from Touchstone (to be released on 12th June, 2008):
It angers me on a daily basis that there's no PTA/DDL commentary.
Best movie of 2007 and probably my favorite movie of all time.
Awesome.
Love the picture of Daniel/HW, whipping up some Photoshop goodness with it.
It doesn't, but it's still worth seeing.
I might watch it to see if it lives up to the hype.
Something that I love about these covers are that fact that they avoid those Critic Quotes as well as Awards Received. Of course it shows off how good the film really is but the way Paramount Vantage and Miramax have gone about the DVD covers is exactly what I like. Simplicity again is King.
I'm sure P.T. Anderson had his say on the DVD cover art.

The features blow, but I'll still get the 2-disc as it's in my top 3 favorite films ever.
doesn't seem like very good special features for an Oscar winning film

Nice 2 disc art work
daniel day lewis is terrible actor...too long of an movie...like always "white people" hyped up anything...lmao...ypasp
HD-DVD? ...I doubt it
This is what digital bits is saying about the HD-DVD release....
Paramount has just officially reconfirmed that There Will Be Blood will be released on DVD on 4/8. The studio had originally set the DVD and HD-DVD versions for release on 4/8, but then the title was pulled from the Paramount Home Entertainment online press database. Just today, however, it's been added back into the system in the following configurations: single-disc widescreen DVD, 2-disc widescreen Collector's Edition DVD and 2-disc Collector's Edition "HD". Since the studio has already confirmed that today's HD-DVD releases (Things We Lost in the Fire and Into the Wild) are its last, the new "HD" listing for There Will Be Blood can mean only one of two things: Either it's the studio's first newly announced Blu-ray (possible, but we think somewhat unlikely), or this is simply error - an HD-DVD title that hasn't yet been cleaned out of the database. When I tried contacting the studio this morning, per usual these past few weeks, I was unable to speak with anyone who could confirm anything either way. We'll keep trying, but in the meantime, you CAN at least expect the DVDs on 4/8. And according to what little detail was available on the press site, the 2-disc Collector's Edition DVD will include some 15 minutes worth of deleted scenes, at least 3 featurettes (The Story of Petroleum, There Will Be Blood - Pics, Research, Etc and Dailies Gone Wild), trailers and more.

Counting down the days!
did they change the 2 disc artwork from before?? The picture seems to be the same but they zoomed it in closer to Daniels image. It definately looks better now.
It was a really well made and great movie. Direction, acting and music was outstanding.
BUT I just didn't like it I'm afraid.
Loved the first 3 quarters, but then it seemed to lose it's pace and never recovered.
It affected me very much in the same way a lot of Kubrick's work does. Brilliant but it left me cold.
Still it was WAY better than NCFOM which was a total dud!

Unfortunately, the HDDVD version has been cancelled by Paramount. Their final 2 HD releases are: "Into The Wild" (my favorite film of the past year) and "Things We Left In The Fire". No plans for a Bluray version in the near future.
I'm digging the 2-disc art. Not at first, but now for some reason I definitely like it.
Saw the movie once, didn't get much from it, but I was exhausted and trying to read Melville at the same time. Think I need to give it a second chance.

Alright, I'm still waiting for someone to call this movie overrated. I don't think a movie has been made that isn't called overrated.
I won't buy this 'til a Blu-ray is released. I wish they'd change that 2-disc art or at least give the Blu-ray the single-disc's artwork.
This is in my top 10 movies of 2007 but definitely not #1 (that would have to be Diving Bell).

Exactly, notice how LaBeef, even though he cares so much for it at the end, doesn't touch his soulmate Bumblebee once throughout the entire movie except when it's a car.
No. 3 favorite movie of 2007, after Zodiac and No Country. Will wait for the high-def release though.

Oh, excellent 2-disc art. If you're going to deviate this drastically from the original poster, you'd better be putting out something this classy. I agree with whoever said that this looks very Criterion-ish.
Wow. I actually like that artwork even more than the original poster. A rarity these days.

Yeah the 2-disc box art....great shot. I wish more companies would take an awesome shot from the movie and slap a title on it. Would turn out so much better than all this obviously photoshopped c**p these days.

I didn't think much of it, started well and got worse.
IMO Daniel Day Lewis does a great job with an unremarkable script.

You didn't read properly what I had written... I was referring to reviews from friends and work colleagues being negative. The press has been generally positive, although I have seen the odd comments about it being too long aswell.
I really like the 2-disc box art.
Er I am yet to have read a bad review anywhere. Apart from a few 8 year olds on IMDB who gave Rambo a 10 out of 10........

I agree with most that the 2-disc isn't that great, but it could be worse. I actually would have preferred this one:
http://www.impawards.com/2007/there_will_be_blo...
but we could end up with a c**ppy floating head cover like No Country had. I will get this in high def when it comes to Blu-ray.

I'm not that a big fan of that 2-disc artwork. I would have loved for this film to get a leathery (bible-style poster) digipak collector's edition. And i have a feeling the R2 collector's edition will have the original teaser poster "bible" artwork. R2 has the better artwork 99% of the time. What's with these people!?! The rest of PTA's films originally had digipak covers (well, i cant say this for hard eight, since ive never really seen it in store).
Ehhh... I'm still unsure if I like te 2-disc art work. I"ll have to see the hi-res picture first. but either was I'll be getting th 2 disc wihout a doubt.
2 Disc artwork is cool, suits the film (dark and dirty) but I agree the bible cover on the teaser poster would have been even cooler.
That 2-disc artwork is as epic as the film; I'm so psyched for this!
Cant wait to see this on the weekend. Tho the person who said its as good as No Country for Old Men has me worried. I hated that with a passion.
WOW! I must say that I am surprised with the 2-Disc artwork, mainly because it is great and classy in it's own way. I'm sure a high-res. image will do it much more justice.
You folks have got to be kidding. The artwork is absolutely flawless!
I LOVE the 2 DISC artwork...its quite classy.
HD DVD might be gone, but im still glad this will leap into it's collection.
Wow, don't like the 2 disk artwork. This is what the 2 disk should have been http://www.iwatchstuff.com/2007/09/07/there-wil...
are you guys f**king kidding? that 2-disk artwork is so much better than i'd hoped for. not that i wasn't gonna pick it up anyway, but that artwork just sweetens the deal.
That 2-disc artwork looks more like an insert to me. An interior holder, a la the special editions of "Raging Bull" or "apocalypse now" (the complete dossier version.)
In any case, it's dreadful. Inside a more tasteful case, it might work - but on its own it just sucks.

dont like the artwork but i will be picking up the 2 disc
One disc artwork: C
Nice try with everything balanced in the middle?
But what about the rest. It is just bland and boring.
And gives not even one clue what to look up to.
Two disc artwork: D+
Very repulsive. The artwork is even dumber than the first.
It's a bad immatation of older western movies.

I agree with what a few people have said, there are far too few features to justify a 2-disc... what gives?
And I also like the 2-disc art better, the poster/1-disc cover image looks freakishly CG for no reason... the 2-disc is gritty and cool.

I actually think the 2-Disc art is nice. It's better than the CGI-looking 1-Disc and is something new instead of the 1-Disc with a silver border or some c**p.
That 2-disc artwork is awful.
i hope the guy who made the 2-disc artwork dies and burns in hell.
Lowres shot of the 2-disc artwork added. I'll try and get highres artwork soon
Haven't seen it yet but as DDL is in it i've gotta see it - worth the blind buy...
I saw it for the 2nd time on tuesday, it was even better the 2nd time. Daniel Day Lewis' performance is definitely the finest I have seen put to film. By far my favourite movie of the year.
Favorite movie of 07
will be getting the 2 disc
Amazing movie. For my money, No Country is a slightly better film, but they are both masterpieces and are a testimate to the incredible year in movie releases we were treated with this year. Can't wait to have this in HD
don't think so. To me that kind of thinking, to consider that those attributes define the "american way", is a politically correct, widely accepted sort of ideological racism that is very extended nowadays (at least in Europe where I live) and it is called "anti-americanism". If his character is to be viewed as a metaphor for a culture, it is too shallow and simplistic to be taken seriously, although that simplicity seems to work and is called "propaganda." He is a human stereotype that can be found anywhere in the world. Anyway, I suspect that the filmmakers intentions point that way, specially if you add Paul/Eli Sundays's character to the mix:
Plainview + Paul/Eli Sunday = Oil (the power of money) + Superstition (the power of lies, manipulation) = Blood. Sounds familiar? That is precisely what anti-american propaganda claims is the American Way.
Notice I say Paul/Eli since to me they are the same person, not brothers, and the most disturbing and really negative force in the movie

Best film since Pulp Fiction. Stupid how they can't add those puny features to one disc.
This was an awesome film. Daniel Day-Lewis is the greastest actor ever.
One of the best movies I've ever seen also, cant wait for the 2 disc!
Not only is it this years best film, it's the best of the century besides the Lord of the Rings trilogy. That release is fast because I know a theater that will still be playing this by that time rolls around. Way cool.

Fantastic movie!!Daniel Day Lewis definitely deserves to win the lead actor Oscar.A depressing poignant film that shows oil barons for what they are.The final scene is amazing.Great cinematography and directing in this film as well.
The cover is pretty much the only art you are ever shown of the film.So I am not surprised they used it.

Second best movie of the year for me! (First is Sweeney Todd). I loved the film and Daniel Day-Lewis was extraordianry, I really hope it wins bext pic over everyone's favorite, No Country. I will def. be buying the 2-Disc and I'm going to assume the coverart is going to be the same as the single with a border around it (like Babel).
hell yes!!! HD DVD only!!

It looks like he's taking a c**p. But otherwise, this was my favorite movie of 2007.
Easily one of the top three films of the year. I saw it twice at the cinema and was mezmerized both times. I love that they stuck with the poster artwork, instead of some photo-shopped quote-fest, although I'm sure it will have a "Academy Award Winner - Best Actor, Daniel Day-Lewis" tag on it by April.
awesome cover
Why does his face look so CG? I noticed this on the original poster, it's nuts.
Daniel Day-Lewis won the SAG award, did he?
Surely a quote will decorate the bottom of this artwork by the time it hits the shelves. Other that that, it's a great strong cover from a great strong poster.
Yep, Paramount has lousy timing ... I guess Toshiba did not inform them of the decision to withdraw from HD DVD format. Sheesh - to think Paramount was silly enough to go HD DVD exclusive and Toshiba was too afraid to tell them that they have abandoned the format(Michael Bay must be pleased that Transformers will now get a Blu Ray release).
This movie disappointed me greatly. The first hour was decent, then the next hour was extremely boring, and then the final half-hour was great. I just thought it was not balanced well. Daniel Day-Lewis' performance was amazing though and this movie would not have had anything going for it without him. I will not be picking this up.
I can't believe there is absolutely nothing on the 1 disc edition. And all the special features on the 2-disc edition could have been on the 1 disc. And the artwork isn't impressive either.
Agreed, I will wait for the inevitable Blu-Ray release.
Paramount's timing is impeccable: Toshiba announces the end of the HD DVD format by March...and this film comes out on HD DVD April 8th. Love the film, I'll wait for the Blu-ray.

Quote: A sprawling epic of family, faith, power and oil, THERE WILL BE BLOOD is set on the incendiary frontier of California’s turn-of-the-century petroleum boom. The story chronicles the life and times of one Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis), who transforms himself from a down-and-out silver miner raising a son on his own into a self-made oil tycoon. When Plainview gets a mysterious tip-off that there’s a little town out West where an ocean of oil is oozing out of the ground, he heads with his son, H.W. (Dillon Freasier), to take their chances in dust-worn Little Boston. In this hardscrabble town, where the main excitement centers around the holy roller church of charismatic preacher Eli Sunday (Paul Dano), Plainview and H.W. make their lucky strike. But even as the well raises all of their fortunes, nothing will remain the same as conflicts escalate and every human value – love, hope, community, belief, ambition and even the bond between father and son – is imperiled by corruption, deception and the flow of oil.
