Jesus, calm down. It only came out today in theatres.
This is a first.
January 27th in the UK, so maybe the 28th for the US?

Considering how much of a money spinner this is - I can see it arriving for xmas. Limited cinematic run and all that. Just one big ad for the dvd/Blu-ray release over the festive period more than likely.
Wow, I can see Joe Jackson's eyes turning greener already.....
This movie is such a cash-in, but I really do love his music and performances. I really want to see this, but I'll probably get saddened by it all.
Damn, it was just released today. I think Ill check it out on Saturday.
If I don't get to see it in theaters, I'll probably blind buy it on Blu when it comes out. I wanna see this on a gigantic screen in digital projection. It just screams for that I think. Then again, why do I wanna line that arsehole father of his' pockets??? Conflicted. So very conflicted.
Sony isn't going to release this on home video until, at the very least, February 13th. Theater chains and video companies have a 90 day window agreement between the theatrical release and the home video.

his father has nothing to do with this. he hasn't had anything to do with micheal's career since at least Thriller, possibly Off The Wall. so he's never before and never will see a penny from anything.
jackson's will even said things went to his mother and children.
and i dont see this as a cash grab. death or not, they would have eventually released this footage. probably on 2nd disc as part of a collection featuring the finished concert had it all taken place.

It's possible, and plausible, that Sony could've listed that in the film's contract and reneged the 90-day window. Besides, Paramount has gone one day short of that window with recent releases G.I. Joe and Dance Flick.
Also, if they went by the 90-day window, the earliest it could be released would be January 26 - Day 91.

Only a 2 week theatrical run so expect it maybe around Christmas.
This is rated PG because some content may be inappropriate for children (namely boys).
Release date is February 13, 2010
I read on another site that the release will be mid Feb ( FEB 13 to be exact). It was rumored for before Xmas, but has since been pushed back.

They're not going to release a movie on DVD and Blu-ray on a Saturday. The 90-day window goes from when the film STARTS playing, not when it leaves theaters. The majority of films in theaters don't have a set date when they leave theaters.
Don't be surprised when the DVD and Blu-ray come out January 26, 2010.

Not releasing it before Christmas would be a huge mistake for Sony. This would be quite hot and sell more copys at that time than it would in February, that is if it has a 2 week limited engagement theatrical run. If not, than early February would have to be it I suppose, as most movies take around 4 months now to arrive on DVD/Blu-ray.
It's money grab... But I'm a true Michael Jackson fan
rumors dvd release around Feb 13th 2010

I saw a screening last night. Awesome backstage concert/documentary. Some scenes are bound to look incredible on Blu-ray, like the girl in the forest scene.
Don't be fooled by the release date rumors. This WILL be out before Christmas. An announcement will be made shortly (after the 2 week theatrical release).
The "90 day rule" sure was broken with From Justin to Kelly...
I'm surprised none of you have yet to mention that the "2-week only run" is a bulls**t marketing technique. Refer to that Miley Cyrus concert movie or from just this month, the Toy Story 3D Double Feature. They "lied" by saying the film would be a limited engagement, waited for the great box office numbers (that they anticipated in the first place), and then supposedly "decided to announce" an "extension" to the run.
If This Is It opens anywhere north of $30-50m this weekend as analysts are expecting, expect cinemas to play the film well into November.
As for the 90-day rule, I guess studios decide to wave that sometimes, considering 2004's Surviving Christmas came out less than two months after the day it was released in theatres.

I'm not a Michael Jackson loather or lover, but all these pedophile jokes are getting so repetitive. I mean god, it wasn't even that funny to begin with. We get it. Michael is a pedophile. Get over it. Is that the only thing you nitwits look at? He's an actually talented man, not to mention, he was the first to create music videos.

I concur. I'm sick of all these marketing ploys. "2 weeks only", they can say that until they're blue in the face, but I know it's a scheme. It's bad enough the film is a scheme, let's not milk it.

Hopefully this will be it. I'm sick of hearing about MJ, he's not the second coming for f**k sake!
wow, someone took my crotch grabbing comment as a pedophile joke? ummm...maybe i said that because you know, he's notorious for grabbing his crotch while dancing? even oprah asked him about that once. lol
Yes - they announce this but what about Toy Story 1 & 2 on Blu-Ray.
They would be stupid not to release this on DVD before Christmas. I thought they might, and still think they will. It will make the most money that way.

OK, thank you for correcting me. I don't feel TOO bad supporting it then.

I hope to get a Blu-ray version of the whole Michael Jackson history including this one, probably a box containing everything, I wonder if anyone thinks that's a possibility
