Saw it last night. A true spectacle to be seen. A first day buy on Bluray for me. Some scenes are bound to look incredible.

We'd just be happy with a completely restored & remastered copy of Thriller on Blu-Ray...

Seems like only yesterday that this came out in theaters

LOL!
LOL!
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has reportedly stepped back from releasing Michael Jackson’s final concert performance, This Is It, on DVD and Blu-ray Disc for the holiday shopping season after protests from movie theater owners, according to The Los Angeles Times.
This isn't a cash-in?
The concert promoters decided they needed to make money back from the ill-fated concerts and decided to release a film about it. They're pretty open about the fact this film exists is to make money.
This is only rehearsal footage of a concert by a man that really hadn't done much for about 15 years (all we heard was about his bizarre private life), can the rehearsal footage of a has-been really be considered a masterpiece in film-making?

Happy Thanksgiving! Just wanted to get that out of there, lol. Anyway, I will probably Netflix this since I missed the supposedly "limited" theatrical run. I bet the cinematography is top-notch. Also next to animation, concert films also look stupendous in Blu-ray. The artwork and extras seem pretty standard, basic. I thought the filmmakers would release it as a "2-disc edition" or a "Limited Edition". I guess not. This was a marketing ploy after all.
I saw this twice in theatres (yes, I'm an MJ fan), and will buy this on release day...and I agree, we need to get all HIS short videos remastered and re-released in blu-ray...
I'm not an MJ fan and i'm sick of hearing about him, but I will check this out because it does look kinda interesting.
"I bet the cinematography is top-notch"
There is only behind-the-scenes type footage...
THis was sort of boring if you're not a diehard fan. It was bland, and because of it being rehearsels the songs arent spectacular or interesting.

I don't really see Toy Story 1 & 2 coming to Blu-Ray until next year's release of Toy Story 3.
They said that they were going to release the Blu-Rays for Toy Story 1 & 2 in March '10.

Mainly girls.

so they included the smooth criminal and thriller movies? well golly, that's like their first appearance on home video outside of VHS. but you'd think since they included a making of for criminal, they woulda included the thriller one. especially since the VHS contained both.

So you have to get the Blu Ray in order to have the Thriller short film. That blows.
I wonder if the Thriller film is the original music video or the short that was shot for the concert. I think it is the concert short, since they only specify Smooth Criminal and Thriller, both of which were "re-imagined" for the concert. I will be picking this up on Blu-ray anyway.
I wish they release a box set of all his short films. So many of them are missing from the available DVDs, like "Human Nature" and "Another Part of Me". To get the videos from Bad, you need to buy 2 different DVDs. And I don't think the prison version of "They Don't Care About Us" is on any DVD. I thought the holiday season would be the best time to release a real complete video collection. Guess I'll have to keep waiting.

Saw this movie twice!!!! IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!!!!
Grew up listening to MJ and the movie was just great to watch, especially with audiences who are also fans! Can't wait to blast the sound on Blu ray! The production of the performances were well done especially "They Don't Really Care About Us", "Smooth Criminal" and "The Way You Make Me Feel". Choreography was still AMAZING, watch the dancers as well!
The Concert would've been INSANE!!!!!

More than likely, the Thriller and Smooth Criminal short films will be the new ones shot for the show. Regardless of cinematography, the sound AND specially video editing are superb, they deserve to at least be nominated for an oscar...

be patient, he just died. i'm sure some mega collection is coming in the near future. i am surprised he never released one himself, especially in this age of digital media and all. but yeah i'm sure there will be some dvd collection featuring all his videos and shorts and things, its inevitable. even if its not released in a mega collection, there will at the very least be individual releases down the line.
he's making so much money since he died, sony wont want to miss out.

I wonder when they will double dip this one. I have a feeling that This Isn't the only release of "This Is It". I could be wrong.

It was an extremely well-edited movie, and not all of it consisted of Michael Jackson's rehearsal footage. Some of it was behind-the-scenes footage of the new pieces shot for the concert like the rehearsals and green screen footage for "They Don't Care About Us", "Earth Song" and "Smooth Criminal"; fine-tuning the musical instruments and song timing to MJ's liking, as well as costume designs and designing the aerial elements for the concert.
The musical numbers are the raison d'etre of the entire movie. For a rehearsal movie, the numbers are extremely well-choreographed and the editors did an incredible job bringing the energy and excitement to the audience. And the sound editing and mixing is superb.
I'm not a Michael Jackson fan, but it was a good movie.

Do we know if it will be region free ?
Noted ABC on the back cover ?

I'll gladly pick it and further contribute to the Prince, Paris, and Blanket Trust Fund.....as long as Papa Joe and his lawyers can't find a way to siphon the revenue off to his Freeloading Father Fund.
I'm glad that the Theatrical Trailer is included.
I find that most Blu-ray/DVD releases DON'T include the actual movie's Trailer! Isn't that supposed to be a STANDARD Special Feature by now? I HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS!

What? I didn't really see why this is worthy of an oscarnomination in editing...

I wanna see this on a gigantic screen in digital projection. It just screams for that I think. Then again, why do I wanna line that arsehole father of his' pockets??? Conflicted. So very conflicted.
his father has nothing to do with this. he hasn't had anything to do with micheal's career since at least Thriller, possibly Off The Wall. so he's never before and never will see a penny from anything.
jackson's will even said things went to his mother and children.
and i dont see this as a cash grab. death or not, they would have eventually released this footage. probably on 2nd disc as part of a collection featuring the finished concert had it all taken place.
OK, thank you for correcting me. I don't feel TOO bad supporting it then.
Why would u be concerned if JJ gets any money? If it wasnt for him, there would be no famous jacksons. Regardless of how he treated them, get off this self rightious anti-Joe Jackson mess! If ur so concerned about the morals of people making a profit, then u shouldnt purchase ANYTHING from Any company or person!
