Transformers (US - DVD R1 | HD)
Paramount Home Entertainment sends over details on the new Michael Bay film
Title: Transformers (IMDb)
Starring: Shia LaBeouf
Released: 16th October 2007
SRP: Prices TBC
Further Details:
Paramount Home Entertainment has officially announced single and double-disc editions of the Michael Bay directed Transformers which stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox. Each will carry an anamorphic widescreen presentation and English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. The only extra material on the single-disc will be an audio commentary with director Michael Bay. The two-disc edition will include that, along with a Story Sparks featurette with Steven Spielberg, a Human Allies featurette, an I Fight Giant Robots featurette, a Battleground featurette on the consultants from the Department of Defense and Air Force, a Rise of the Robots featurette on bringing the toy line to life, and an Autobots Roll Out feature in which Michael Bay discusses working with Chevy and its designers. Completing the package will be a Decepticons Strike feature on the "toys" the production crew were allowed to borrow, another feature on ILM, a From Script to Sand: The Skorponok Desert Attack feature, concept sketches, and trailers.
Also available from the 16th will be a HD DVD release of the film. This will be presented in 1080p High Definition with English 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus soundtrack. In addition to the above features that will be presented in high definition, the HD DVD will also offer a H.U.D. (Heads Up Display) that lets viewers access running text commentary while watching the film and even view relevant behind-the-scenes footage in a picture-in-picture window. Additionally, viewers can explore the main robots’ individual details in high definition with the Transformers Tech Inspector. Our thanks to Brian Oliver for the heads up.

Single Disc no frills edition DVD has an option that is not functional on the initial menu. The transformers icon on the right hand side is not accessible. However after watching the movie we fast forwarded through the credits and found that the icon on the main menu is now functional and allows for some trailers to be accessed.
PS- I could not figure out how to add this to the Easter Eggs section, there was no string ont his movie as of yet and I could not determine how to start one.

The third best film of the summer! Awesome! Only behind Harry Potter and Pirates 3! Great and entertaining to the last scene!

Oh really? Must be in Japan because in different parts of the world other studios own the rights, but the US release which is the OFFICIAL producing owners are Paramount Pictures and Dreamworks, Fox is nowhere near the title.
I am soooooo happy that when Transformers hits store shelves on HD DVD, all Blu-ray sales will automatically go down but way down to the bottom of the totum pole. Is "goodbye" Blu-ray and "hello" HD DVD.

Can a good movie have at least a kool cover?!?!?!
This movie has more action in the first 5 minutes than those sh*tty SPIDERMAN movies combine
tranformers is a big hit i heard that tow sequels are coming in 2009 and 2011
I agree. I dislike the one with only two robots for the front AND back covers.
Single Disc Artwork is so much nicer than the 2-Disc/HD-DVD.
Artwork added for the HD DVD release...
DVDTown.com just put up the HD-DVD artwork. Almost exactly like the two-disc SE. Still prefer the single-disc artwork.
I am Chinese,I like Transformers too.but how many is it? RMB

Ugh...that cover art coulda been so much better...
i will never get this movie as much as i loved it - if it aint on bluray i refuse to buy it!!!
Bay Smash!
What lousy cover art. Anyhow, I missed this in theaters. Sounded really stupid and when I heard it was good, I never got the chance to see it. I have to rent.
Amazon.com has the HD-DVD cover art and it's horrible. Just like the 2-disc art but probably temporary, still really bad!

That's Frenzy, who was originally named Soundwave, but was changed as he was nowhere near the powerhouse bodyguard of Megatron Soundwave is. Soundwave will be in the sequel.

i think that transformers the tv show, is the worst thing ever invented, but the movie looks pretty good, but i hate Shia Labeof
I liked it, but I wasnt as crazy about it as other people were. So I'll probably stick with the 1 disc because it has better art, and I really wouldnt care to watch the stuff on the extra disc anyways.

DUDE, what rock have you been under. Have you not heard the BIG Micheal BAY rant a few weeks ago about the HD only release.
Screw Michael Bay! The point is that Paramount is the lead in the film production, and they have a higher level of the entire rights of the film, so I dont think Michael Bay's saying that he wont support Blu-ray is not his matter, but Paramount's decision.
If I read my orignal post right, I say NOTHING that this was a decision of Michael Bay.
2nd maybe you should read your post before you hit SUBMIT next time, because half of what you said makes no F**king sense.

This DVD is definitely more than meets the eye! Not only does this Collector's Pack contain the mega-blockbuster live action Transformers movie by Michael Bay, but the packaging can be transformed into a 15" tall Optimus Prime! What better way to celebrate the arrival on DVD of this epic sci-fi adventure than by transforming it into your very own Autobot!
ha...thats awesome....hope it looks and works half as well as those drawings show but yeah.....neat idea

Who the hell cares about the damn cover art??? I'm just surprised that in 100 posts on this topic, none of these so called sound aficianados haven't even mentioned the lack of a dts track. That's the real tragedy here. F#ck the cover art.
Can't wait for the 2-disker....and I'm sure it will have a better artwork finally!

You mean some viewers bought that stupidity. It was the singular reason I just found the series utter tripe, and never got into it. After seeing Macross and the like, and having realistic transformable vehicles (realistic as in the designers actually did their job and transformable vehicles were able to be represented in 3d models. You have transformers on the other hand where the toys were just utter garbage as most of the robot versions looked nothing like their animated counterparts. Then add to that the stupidity of the biggest decepticon turning into a pistol? You got to be kidding me...
So kudos to Michael Bay turning that c**p into something decent.

That extra IMAX footage everyone keeps referring to as the reason why even the 2-disc edition will get double-dipped at some point only amounts to two extra minutes. Granted, that's two minutes that should be included somewhere on the DVD but still, as packed as it is, I question whether or not there truly is another version waiting in the wings. Also, with regards to the notion that the film was originally rated R, I don't believe anything was actually cut to achieve the PG13 that it ultimately got. It was simply a successful appeal. Anyway, I think I'll take my chances with the 2-discer.

Wow, I hadn't even noticed that the 1-disc has it split into 'Trans Formers'. That does really bother me, too. Other than that, still nice artwork though.
Wish I could go Hi-Def for this, but I think I'll just settle for the 2-Disc.....

Aside from the fact that this is one of those films that NEEDED to have a DTS track on it, I'm kinda digging the two-disc Megatron set.
The 1-disc art is so much better: so I'm glad it's the R2 art.
I'm still pissed that this is not getting a Blue-ray release and I'm not getting a HDdvd player for it.

I'm hoping Best Buy will feature a Steelbook case when this comes out.

What we should be scared in the future is if they start off with HD-DVD releases say double layer first disc 45gb but then the ultimate extended director's cut edition will be a quad layer blu-ray disc which is 100gb come out 3 months later forcing us to double dip (triple dip if we bought the dvd).

regarding frank welker...
the funny thing is, welker did his voice for the game..and maybe i'm alone but i thought it was great...yes he sounds older but it still sounded like the megatron we know and it even worked fine with the movie look.
considering how little dialogue he had in the movie, its a shame they went with weaving...dont get me wrong, i think weaving did fine and i actually got chills when he does his "i am megatron" thing when waking....but imagine how much cooler it woulda been to hear both cullen and welker talking to each other at the end...especially since they used lines from the 86 movie.
a cool extra on a dvd would be the option to hear welker instead but thats wishful thinking...lol

Well, Frank Welker did the voice of Megatron in the cartoon and did a voice demo when auditioning for the movie, but the producers said his voice was too aged. So they got Hugo Weaving instead.
I love the single-disc artwork and slipcover -- it does seem odd that the movie description and the cast and crew listing are on the slipcover rather than on the DVD cover insert, but it does give a valid case to not throw away the slipcover with this release.
The two-disc edition is nice and simple, but the lack of movie information, plus proof-of-purchase tabs, aren't either on the slipcover or the DVD cover insert. Which is stupid on Paramount's part.

I loved the film. I am disappointed by the lack of deleted scenes. The artwork isn't bad, but the keep it simple approach of the two dsic is better than the one disc version.

This movie was definately better than I thought going in. I had doubts about them not looking like the G1 cartoon, but they did an awesome job. And to have the dude who did the voice of Prime in the cartoon back for the movie was sweet. Only wish they had done the same for Megatron. I will wait for the eventually extended IMAX release, no way I want to double dip.
Why is the artwork for the 1 disc better than the one in the 2-disc set? Oh well...

actually you'll notice its just the back of the 2 disc...so you have prime on the front and megatron on the back.........i COULD be wrong but the megatron images show the spine on the opposite side of the prime ones so yeah..pretty sure its double sided...sorta like they did with the XBOX 360 cybertron edition.
i do like that shot of prime standing over sam but why's he so grey? the colors are so muted..his head looks fine but the rest of his body, can hardly tell he's red and blue
oh and it seems the 2 disc edition isnt a steelbook afterall...darn
ya i just realised that. im like huh cool 2 different covers to choose from then its like wait it must be back art. just thrown off by there not being a description of the movie or a list of features. there better be atleast a little booklet inside that lists the features and stuff.
no bar code on the back of the 2 disc? does this mean its free lol.
actually you'll notice its just the back of the 2 disc...so you have prime on the front and megatron on the back.........i COULD be wrong but the megatron images show the spine on the opposite side of the prime ones so yeah..pretty sure its double sided...sorta like they did with the XBOX 360 cybertron edition.
i do like that shot of prime standing over sam but why's he so grey? the colors are so muted..his head looks fine but the rest of his body, can hardly tell he's red and blue
oh and it seems the 2 disc edition isnt a steelbook afterall...darn

paramount turning down Blu-Ray just sucks. How can they not see that Blu-Ray is better at everything. Better picture, better sound, better everything! I'd have bought this only if it was Blu-ray. And plus, who'd buy this film now, there is an obvious extended cut just waiting to be released!
This was just a fun and exciting summer action film, and I'm happy to see that it's getting a great DVD treatment. The artwork for both editions are awesome! Very creative stuff, and I can't wait for the 2-Disc!
the single disc artwork is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than the two disc! argh i sure wanna have the 2 disc but the artwork is horrible!

WOW, that is NICE one-disc art; not the slipcover, though, the regular cover. That is a really cool picture. I prefer my slipcover to it still, though.

Transformers is an HD DVD exclusive as Paramount supports HD DVD exclusively. You can't get it on Blu-ray as it won't be released on Blu-ray. Sorry, but you can get Spider-Man 3 and POTC: At World's End, so i guess it evens out.
Ehh, I guess. But last year, "Mission: Impossible III" was distributed by Paramount and was released on HD DVD and Blu-ray. I guess Paramount didn't really need to support Blu-ray.

Lots more packshots added - still awaiting the HD artwork

I'm was hoping the extend IMAX cut would be in the initial release of the DVD. Guess we'll be getting the extended IMAX CUT later in another dvd edition. Kind a sucks, oh well, I'll see it on Imax and decide if it is worth the double dip later.
I totally prefer the single disc artwork with the Bumble bee, Optimus and Megatron on top and the humans on the bottom. Hoping slip case is the optimus head and underneath case is the single disc art.

I heard many good things about this... but I will have a very hard time going through this as I usually hate all Michael Bay's film. Maybe this an exception. But nonstop action and blow ups right in your face makes it a great film? Ill give it a HD DVD rental.
Blu fans... what will you guys do? Bahaha...

Just import the FOX Blu-ray Japanese release. Japan is Region A as is the U.S. via Blu-ray. Remember, FOX owns the international distribution rights.
i think im one of the few who didnt like this movie
Still sad that this format war isn't over. Talk about choosing between which parent you want to live with after the divorce. Let's settle it now and go for Beta. Oh wait, that was 25 years ago.
Nobody wins in format wars, for that matter all wars.
Being an owner of both HD and Blu-ray. I personally prefer Blu-Ray. Recent purchase was 300 on all 3 platforms. Blu-Ray being my favorite version.
Perhaps, an article can published with recent movie titles and compare the visuals, audio and special features.

I'll buy this eventually. It wasn't magnificent, but pretty good.
on the bestbuy site they have a single and 2 disc listed and shows little cover art images and one looks close to the one above but it has the 2 disc thing on the top in a silver strip and the single disc has the transformers head ontop and the city below and has more color too it.
WOW YES! Was reading this on High Def Digest, this coming out fast TRANSFORMERS cant wait! Buying both on HD DVD & DVD. Oct. 16th is around the corner, lots to buy that month. Both on HD DVD & Blu Ray I cant complain I have both formats love it!!
OOhhhh yeaa, the HD version is exactly what my player needs.
Hmm, the exclusives that Paramount/Universal have, is that enough to stop the bohemoth that will be Star Wars Blu-Ray?

I couldn't agree more. Effects cannot drive a movie! Although it was successful (based on Hollywood's standards - money), the plot lacked and the dialogue was horrid. This was a disappointment - but most of MB's stuff is - and I knew this going in. I will not be buying.

It'll be the HD DVD for me, but that can't be the cover, right? If they insist on having the title vertically like that, they should definitely consider placing Prime and Megatron facing each other horizontally under the title.

I like the cover art. I prefer simple over bloated.

I went into this one thinking it was going to suck given it's director's history...however I was quite surprised and I really enjoyed it. 2 disc is a must buy for me.
Cant wait to get this. although the news is kind of last minute just like silver surfer was but still cool. i agree the cover art looks a bit lame and hopefully it will get updated.

I doubt that is final coverart.

Looks like a steelbook or tin case. Wonder what the single disc artwork will be? But i'll be there on this very quick turn around release date. Loved it!
Incredibly entertaining flick.....lousy cover art, though.
This is coming out really fast. I wasn't expecting it to be released until December, but I'm really glad it's coming out earlier, because it was amazing. That artwork is sucky, though.
Wow. The UK cover art on Play.com is so much better than this. Anyway, I'm a die hard Transformers fan and really enjoyed the film, even if Jazz and Starscream didn't have enough screentime. I can't wait to see the sequels! I worked my butt off on the Wikipedia article for this film.
