OMG! THAT'S ANOTHER MOVIE I MISSED OUT ON!!! Just curious, are Disney going to only DVD releases and 3D + 2D Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy Combo Packs. They need to have at least a regular combo pack where it just shows the Blu-Ray and the DVD together without the digital copy and/or either the 3D Blu-Ray.
I am SO getting the Identity Disc Packaging if it's under $60.
EDIT: I say this because usually Target has the 3D combo packs for $29.99 and with the Disney coupon it's usually about $23. So I imagine the disc packaging is like 4 times as much as that.
EDIT 2: Sorry to comment again, but I'm just in love with this movie. I usually side with the critics, but this was a major exception. If I can see this movie a billion times in IMAX 3D, I'd take the opportunity! Imagine how it'll be seeing Tron: Legacy in Blu-ray 3D and its predecessor "Tron" in glorious HD

Interesting. I wonder what new material, if any, will be released for the original Tron? I still have the 2 disc collectors edition of Tron from years back, that was packed full of stuff, wonder if any of that will be ported over, given new transfers, or will have anything new added to it.
Not sure what package i would get, I just hope the original isn't given the shaft.

So we wont get a nice double movie set in DVD? Downloading once again especially seeing as even the VHS of the original goes for $80+ some places. I also hate the "TRON" with " the original classic" underneath it. We know it's TRON, we don't need the extra c**p under there, just slap the original TRON logo on there and nothing else. The other box art looks horrible as well. Even the identity disk has "tron legacy" on it, when it includes the original Tron movie. This all just seems like a huge waste of plastic. Bluray 3D movies come with 4 discs in there, all of the same damn movie just because we need "bluray 3D for the living room", then "bluray for whatever else has a bluray player", then "DVD for the kids room and for on the go in the car", then "digital copy for your ipod and other portable digital devices!". I laughed so hard at that promo because it just seemed to go on and on justifying the same movie jammed in there 4 times.
Hmm. Assuming it isn't like $80 or something, I'll be hard pressed to pass up that Identity Disc set... especially if it lights up like that.
There's also going to be a regular 2D Blu-ray / DVD combo pack for Legacy, just like Disney is doing for Tangled. It's weird that neither of the two-movie sets say whether they include a DVD for the original TRON, which the individual BD release does. The picture for the CE seems to indicate that it won't, though.
If that's the case, and if the Identity Disc set is expensive, I'd have to ponder on whether to get the 2-disc release of TRON and the 4-disc version of Legacy, or just the 5-disc two-movie set (though I really don't like the cover for that one. The image is fine--and in fact I wish THAT was the cover for the 4-disc set--but I wish it was more like the Fantasia double feature, with both cover images and title for the old TRON on the left instead of the right.) Though it'll probably all come down to cost. I wonder how Disney will handle the Rewards coupons for these?

Why not throw in a VHS and Laserdisc while they're at it??

I would love that as well, and yes the original tron should be on the left seeing as it was the first. Who knows with a 3rd possibly happening, why waste money on one of these "first 2" sets anyway? It's like buying a 1-4 set of the HP movies or something. I bet when there is a trilogy that is when they will throw in the VHS and Laserdisc copies, along with the sountrack on cassette, cd, and as a download ticket. This makes me wonder why digital copies are so popular in disc form, why not offer a one-time download ticket from amazon or something?

I usually think that collectables are a waste (for an example the "Inception" briefcase), but this one looks like it'll be worth it. (Come on a disc that lights up, and it includes the original TRON!).
Better packaging then the UK!! Definitely will be picking up the 2 movie collection.
But the Blu-Ray 3D + Blu-Ray 2D + DVD + Digital Copy is just ridiculous. We don't want the digital copy!! Give us more bonus material instead. I hope there is a commentary or better yet, multiple commentaries.

Sweet ass covers all around. I didn't care for this one though and thhe 3d didn't do much, shoot half of it wasn't even in 3d. Is the original really like a hot item? I ask cuz last march I got it from best buy for like 14 bucks.
Also is that collectable case supposed to light up?

Can anyone clarify why there's the need for 2 separate BD's, one for the 3D and one for the 2D. Is it just a case of maintaining the highest quality for each?
I realise it's a different title but the UKBD of Piranha 3D managed to get both the 3D and 2D on the same disc. Was PQ compromised by having one layer per version or did my 2D only hardware just play what it could from the 3D version.
Confused.

id probably get the 2 movie collection but wish they would keep the 3d seperate. not everyone has a 3d tv (and just wondering but would a 3d disc work on a regular blu ray but obviously just wouldnt be in 3d?) and honestly in a few years i think the 3d thing is going to die down. people probably wont want to watch it in 3d everytime they watch the movie or even after the first time. ill wait for holographic movies.
Good question bout the 3d bluray but I don't think it would work. I always wondered if u took a pair of real d glasses to a Dolby 3d theatre if they'd work. Anyone notice how the movie doesn't use to legacy in the title?

Extraneous VHS copies. An untapped niche!!

First day buy
@matt86: Yeah I noticed that. When the title showed up (which it did beautifully) I was waiting for the "Legacy" to appear and it never did.
this sequel totally worked. i had no idea this was in development...and when i saw the trailer in the theatre...i was totally blown away. honestly...i did not like the original (i saw it late in life and thought it was cheesy/didn't hold up well). anyhoo...i really liked it...and was VERY surprised it didn't do better at the box office. not only was daft punks soundtrack amazing...but there cameo was pretty awesome too...and i thought michael sheen totally stole the show. the identity disc set is very cool...i already have tron on dvd...so i'm debating on the blu ray 3d 4-disc or the 5-disc. decisions decisions!!!

The original one is a hot item now. The original DVD especially. Amazon has it starting at around $70 and going up to over $150. The 20th anniversary DVD is a bit cheaper as you can get it used for under $40 and new up to $80. Not sure why, one would think it would be the opposite? The VHS even goes up to $70.

I swore I'd never fall for gimmicky packaging ever again (Hulk breakaway wall, Dark Knight Batman Head, Iron Man Head etc.)
but dang if that identity disc set isn't SWEET! I'm throwing myself at that like LiLo at a pile of pure uncut Columbian.

I'm probably the biggest Tron nerd ever so I will buy all of this! Although I am confused as to what the Identity disc is. Does it hold all of the discs or is it just a glowing thing to put on a desk?
Pre-orders are now up on Amazon. MSRP for the Identity disc is $100, currently going for $70. >.< Tough call.
I already pre-ordered on amazon, I think 70 bucks is a great deal for all that stuff, plus they have that cool pre order price guarantee, so I hope the price goes down, but if it doesn't I still think it's a good price

Don't get neither. Go with the identity disc collectable packaging :D

Does anyone know if the IMAX scenes will be presented in the aspect ratio, or if they'll pull a Transformers 2 and only do that for Wal-Mart or something?
So is the first Tron in Blu-Ray as well?
We recently release the TRON arcade game that we had made for Disney. It was complete and ready for deployment, but due to department heads not in sync, it was made again by another department who didn't know it existed! So we're putting it out there - enjoy before it gets yanked by a cease and desist!
