I wont be getting these. I am sick of the re-re-releases. they are like Anchor Bay with Halloween and the Evil Dead. What is next for Army of Darkness ? The Metal Arm edition ? LOL

Once again the Legacy collection releases above stellar artwork. Let`s just hope the special features apsect of the discs are given more attention than was given to The Deer Hunter`s legacy release.
Dsman, if you're satisfied with the print quality of these films from the previous releases, then you're not very difficult to please.
No maybe I'm not anal like you Dustin. Have a nice day
It's been awhile since I watched these, but I don't remember the print quality being that bad for movies made in the 30s. I'm not sure you are going to get much better for them, but who knows.
I'll probably end up buying these at some point, depending on the features. I have the legacy edition, plus I have the original Universal Monsters Box set. (Which, by the way, brings up a question. Why haven't the reissued Phantom of the Opera. It is the only one out of that box set that is still OOP.)

No, Universal re-released it back around the time that Schumacher's The Phantom of the Opera was released on DVD and it's still readily available.

This one has 5 movies...2 of which are listed above, what do you think the chances are that we made it on to this release? Same goes for Frankenstein. And is it possible they do the rest of the Legacy Collection, now that I would pay for...not these stupid un-remastered flippers.
You're missing the entire point of these new releases. They're each basically a two-disc SE for the original Dracula and Frankenstein films, not a collection of movies. If you want a whole bunch of movies, then buy the Legacy releases from a couple of years ago, but if you want more special features and a remastered picture for these two, specific films then this release is your bag.
It wasn't that I was missing the point, I was confused. Hence why I asked the question. I was under the impression this was a re-release of the existing set. Looks like it isn't.

"The picture quality is mixed with “Dracula” in particular still showing scratches and jump cuts from the original print used. The other four features look much better" - http://www.genreonline.net/Dracula_Legacy_DVD.h...
"Video quality on Browning's Dracula is fairly weak. The image is often too dark, detail is lacking, and minor source damage is prevalent." - http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/draculalegacy...
" The picture quality varies significantly from film to film. The Lugosi version is a film in desperate need of restoration, and it's too bad that Universal didn't take the opportunity to rescue this film that rescued the studio itself more than once. " - http://www.digitallyobsessed.com/showreview.php...
Huh. I'm anal, am I? Guess those chaps are too. Imagine what they thought about the Frankenstein Legacy Collection.. I'll give you three guesses, and the first two don't count.

I missed that release. Mostly, it seems because DeepDiscountDVD doesn't carry it for some odd reason.

What the hell in the f**king world are they talking about?
Like I said Anal for a movie that is 75 years old. What the hell do you expect, perfection ? I like the Legacy sets just fine & we'll see what the reviews of these new releases say...
3 guess and the first 2 dont count..yeah..um .. ok

Well I read about the Frankenstein Legacy and these reviewers were HAPPY with the transfers. How do you like that ?
Im outta here, time to watch the Giants beat LA BEAT LA !!

Having seen the incredible work done by the FW Murnau Stiftung on the likes of Metropolis (1926), there's no obvious reason the 1931 Draculas couldn't be restored to a higher standard, except for Universal not wanting to spend the money!
I have the whole Legacy series released in the UK (Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman and Monster, along with three synthetic busts of the monsters!) The earliest films aren't in a particularly good state, but the likes of Dracula's Daughter (1935) and onwards are in pretty good condition!
I actually will double-dip if the original films have been cleaned up better. There's really no excuse for major films owned by major studios not to have been through the maximum possible restoration, given the quality of modern video formats!
The original Legacy series was rushed out to promote Van Helsing, which Universal thought would be a big new franchise rather than a CGI-heavy mess that most people have forgotten about!
These films should be released as the classics they are!

I will watch Dracula & Frankenstein again. If I am satisfied with prints( I know I was with Frankentstein)I wont double dip. There's only so much that you can do with a 75 yr old film.
I still havent double dipped on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre with all the multiple dips it had. I kept my Pioneer print.
Army of Darkness I double dipped a couple times though, but I got rid of the ones inferior print quality. The boomstick edition is good, and I have that MGM Region 3 overseas one.

I bought both TCM releases, and recently (through enlightenment on these boards) found out they're the same print. What a jip. The new TCM release has me hooked... can't wait.
I'm still waiting for the definitive Army of Darkness release, the final Book Of The Dead one. Anchor Bay needs to get the rights back and once and for all, put the film on dvd properly.

Menus and full details added...
The documentaries 'The Gentle Monster' and 'The Dark Prince' are 'A&E Biography' episodes. The documentary 'Universal Horror' is an outstanding feature length film (95 Mins.) that aired on TCM a few years back (1998). All three docs are excellent additions to these sets.

Amen to that. A final book, with propper cropping/aspect ratio and a quality print like the Japan release, along with all the extra scenes (even the extra extra television ones) as bonuses and both endings would be fantastic.

I have the definitive Army of Darkness, MGM Region 0 overseas print that DiabolikDVD has , and it is completely uncut, and the print and extras are AWESOME. It blows away Anchor Bay, and there are reviews of it I think on DVD Active, just type Army of Darkness..
I think I'm going to pass on these new Dracula & Frankenstein discs as there is nothing too exciting with these new features, but will check out the Dracula one I have to see how that print is for myself...

OK I think I'm sealed on these.
The features look pretty solid, complete and interesting, and they even carried over the Glass score...so I'm in on these.

I have the legacy sets , that is all I need, they has everything I want and more..boy I wish Universal would put out their 1950s Monster movies....
Nice additional extras that weren't available on the "Classic Monster" or "Legacy" editions ... but this makes the THIRD time these movies have been released. Grrrrr.
the additional/new extras arent appealing enough to me, so unless I read reviews of really improved print quality , I am still passing
Slick menus for both. I'm getting DRACULA for sure.
