I actually love "found footage" style movies, but "V/H/S" has to be one of the most visually unpleasant ones I've seen. Probably the first time this style has bothered me. The stories themselves are nothing to write home about. The wrap-around story is pretty bad and has some incredibly obnoxious characters, as does the first story. Actually, there are several of them throughout the film.
I would break it down something like this.
Wrap-around story - D+
First story - B-
Second story - B-
Third story - B- (Pretty entertaining but ultimately stupid. The lead girl was bad.)
Fourth story - B+ (This was actually quite intriguing and the lead girl was very good.)
Fifth story - C-
Overall I'll go with a C+.

Two of the five were incredible, two were okay and one was execrable. Ti West, usually a solid name for quality, was the most disappointing of all. The movie, in its entirety, has a very strange and discomforting relationship with females. Which is interesting considering that it's an anthology film of shorts made at various times, independent of each other.
It wasn't too bad actually, but not as good as its hype. Solid 3/5.
I don't think I can ever bring myself to watch anything that has Ti West's name attached anymore.
The first story is great and probably the best of the lot - short and to the point.. 2nd one with the husband/wife in a hotel room is so boring, the 3rd one with the dude talking to a girl on skype.. IMO is terrible, just awful. The 4th one is quite decent, that the one with the campers in the woods ( I can't remember the middle order of stories) The last story would've been great (some very decent jump scares and such)except the acting (and I use that term loosely) is just shockingly bad, very amateur, which is a shame.
they released House of the Devil on VHS as a collector's edition so yeah, surprised it didnt happen here as someone else said. i like the cover but its funny, because the angle is so far away they look like audio cassettes. lol
I'm a sucker for these kinds of collaborations, so I'll definitely rent this at the very least.
Watched this after hearing tons of hype and was severely disappointed.
Maybe 2 out of the 5 shorts were enjoyable. The rest were boring and/or stupid.

I didn't think this movie was nearly as good as the critics say. It was rather cliche and silly.
Or Super 8. Oh wait...
LOL @chuffster. That should DEFINITELY be the sequel if nothing else.
I heard`BETA` was better..
What, no VHS release? WTF?!
You know...I was actually kidding there, but now that I'm thinking about it, that actually *would* be a fairly clever marketing stunt.
