Walt Disney Treasures (US - DVD R1)
Walt Disney Home Entertainment sends over details on the eighth installment
Title: Walt Disney Treasures
Starring: N/A (Animation)
Released: 11th November 2008
SRP: Prices TBC
Further Details:
Walt Disney Home Entertainment has announced the eighth wave of Walt Disney Treasures for release on the 11th November. All three new two-disc sets of “Destino,” “Dr Syn, Alias the Scarecrow” and “Chronological Donald, Volume 4” will feature rarely seen footage presented with updated color and sound. Each is hosted by noted film historian, author and critic Leonard Maltin. Further details below:
Quote: “Destino,” began in 1946 as a collaboration between Walt Disney and the famed surrealist painter Salvador Dali. A first-hand example of Disney’s interest in avant garde and experimental work in animation, “Destino” was to be awash with Dali’s iconic melting clocks, marching ants and floating eyeballs. However, “Destino” was not completed at that time. In 2003 it was rediscovered by Walt’s nephew, Roy E. Disney, who took on the challenge of bringing the creation of these two great artists to fruition. In addition to the completed “Destino”, this exciting addition to the Walt Disney Treasures line also includes an all-new feature-length documentary that examines the surprising partnership between Dali and Disney plus two new featurettes; “The Disney That Almost Was,” an examination of the studio’s unfinished projects; and “Encounters with Walt,” which addresses the surprisingly diverse group of celebrities and artists who were attracted to Walt Disney’s early work.
“Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow,” which first aired as three separate episodes on Disney’s weekly TV show under the title “The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh,” was edited for theatrical releases in England and the U.S. This DVD set includes all three of the original TV episodes plus the theatrical version of the film that was released in England.
Disney fans will delight in “Chronological Donald, Volume 4,” which includes 31 classic shorts starring Donald Duck. Each of these meticulously animated adventures was created between 1951 and 1961 and has rarely been seen. All of Donald’s CinemaScope shorts will be presented in their original widescreen aspect ratio for the first time on video.

Great to see Disney continuing the Treasures series aftewr last years rumours that it was to be abandoned. The Disney/ Dali collaboration is intriguing. Chronological Donald looks to be about completed with this years release. Guess next year they'll issue the balance of Mickey Mouse cartoons. Does anyone have opinions on the Dr. Syn feature?
I still need to get the WW2 propaganda Disney Treasure.
I've seen Destino. It is pretty cool, and definitely something unexpected from Disney. Very much Dali through and through.
woohoo more donald. but someone says this may complete his shorts? damn, i figured there might be at least a volume 5 and possibly 6. guess they didnt make as many as i figured. does anyone know when the last ones were made?
also, what about all those shorts that feature mickey, goofy and donald together? were they put onto the mickey and/or goofy collections or havent been released yet?

Sounds interesting. I still want more Swamp Fox to be released.
I'd like to see the Anti-semitic Disney Treasures personally.
Talk about an early announcement! November is a long ways off still, but I am very intrigued by the Destino set. I'll definitely be picking up all three.

That's a very good set. Seeing the Seven Dwarfs turn in their diamonds for war bonds is pretty typical of how that set is, and some of the shorts are just plain weird--such as one where a group of kids visit the local doctor to learn all about winning the war against viruses by getting their shots. But the set is worth it just for Disney's Victory Through Air Power alone really.

having the WW2 set makes me wanna grab Destino... I like the unique ones
Great news. For me, the real treasure here is "Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow." I can't wait. This was announced years ago, then vanished. Although "Dr. Syn" shows it's age and isn't exactly as dynamic as it seemed back in the days of "The Wonderful World of Disney" on Sunday night TV, it's still a great show and Disney's visualization of Russell Thorndyke's hero/villain "The Scarecrow" is just classic. I'll keep my fingers crossed until I hold it in my sweaty little palms.
Ohhhhh, excellent. I can't wait. I'm going to get all three, I love these things, there perfect examples of what real movie collectors love about Disney.

Better move on that. I bet it's already either next to impossible to find or going for a pretty penny on EBAY.

Definitely picking up Destino and the WW2 propaganda. The only Disney Treasures I have is "Tomorrowland", a neat look of Disney's utopia futuristic city. Too bad its a theme/resort park now.
Month earlier than normal.
Part of me kind of wanted them to stop with wave 7. I have all of them and they fit perfectly on my shelf.
Oh well, def getting them! WOO
