Quote: An ordinary man has to protect his children against alien invaders in this science fiction thriller, freely adapted from the classic story by H.G. Wells. Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) is a dockworker living in New Jersey, divorced from his first wife Mary Ann (Miranda Otto) and estranged from his two children Rachel and Robbie (Dakota Fanning and Justin Chatwin), of whom he has custody on weekends. On one such visitation, looking after the kids becomes a little more difficult when, after a series of strange lighting storms hit his neighborhood, Ray discovers that a fleet of death-ray robotic spaceships have emerged nearby, part of the first wave of an all-out alien invasion of the Earth. Transporting his children from New York to Boston in an attempt to find safety at Mary Ann's parents' house, Ray must learn to become the protector and provider he never was in marriage. Also starring Tim Robbins, War of the Worlds was directed by Steven Spielberg, who had been planning the project for years, but set it aside until a wave of "alien invasion" films (led by Independence Day) had run its course.

i loved this movie. so exciting and scary
Decent art. Will be buying.
Lets be glad Paramount decided not to revise the official DVD cover art like they did with recent cover disasters Collateral and Minority Report. PHEW!
At least Paramount used the original DVD artwork for the Blu-ray. Day one purchase for me!!
Loved this movie. I need to buy it on BLU!
was expecting some terrible artwork like cruise's last two blu rays, collateral and minority report, looks like they got one right for a change, this is one of the few tom cruise movies i haven't seen but wouldnt mind making a blind buy for this one
Thankfully, Paramount didn't boo-ha-ghee to artwork again. It's far from Spielberg's best but I kind of liked this. The DTS Track on DVD was nothing short of Reference, so I expect the Master Track on BD to be quite remarkable.
This movie rocks. Watched it again recently on DVD, totally needs the HD upgrade. I'll be getting this one for sure.
One of the really awesome Tom Cruise films along with Rain Man, Eyes Wide Shut, Collateral, Minority Report, Vanilla Sky and of course Top Gun and the Mission Impossible films. I also thought The Last Samurai was really good, and let's not forget his Oscar nominated work in Born on the Fourth of July, Magnolia and Jerry Maguire. He has been in lots of films, he is a great actor, but this film is one of his best and I also have to give props to Spielberg for making another awesome Sci-fi film.
This movie could've been so much better if only Dakota Fanning didn't cry & scream all the time.
To be fair, I think you'd do the same during an alien invasion.
I wouldn't. I'd get all Chuck Norris on their asses...if they had asses that is.
Hardcore.
Hardcore.
Yeah, I guess you're right. She being a 10 year-old girl and all. But wouldn't u just be happy if the scenes where she's whining and screaming (I don't mind the crying though) are removed from the movie? What will I do during an Alien invasion when I was 10 year-old? I will not whine or scream (for me, that's stupid), I'll just run as fast as I can & maybe crying for help.
Really nice cover art for a decnt movie, will buy it
Nic,
No one gets "all Chuck Norris" except for Chuck Norris himself who can divide by zero.........

Love this movie. Definite buy.
Not a fan. Maybe the BD will change my mind. I remember seeing it in theaters the day after I broke up with my girlfriend, so I have a bad memory of it.

Same here, it has some fantastic and really scary sequences in it. Actually one really reminded me of Jurassic Park. For me I can't wait to get Spielberg's back catalogue on Bluray so this will be purchased alongside Minority Report.

Great movie. Wish Paramount used the artwork from the 2 disc special edition. Although when Paramount goes different they usually suck at it. Cruise's best movie - Born On The 4th Of July (should have taken the Oscar, too). Dakota Fanning is sooo annoying in this movie (Especially when she pulls that personal space bulls**t. I would have fed her to the aliens for that one!)
Chuck Norris' tears cure cancer. Chuck Norris has never cried.

Dakota Fanning didn't especially annoy me in this film. What annoyed me was when the son who fled from the others suddenly appears. Alive and well. It evaporated what little pathos was in the film.
I shouldn't have expected anything more from a film that has aliens lay waste to the Earth and somehow concludes with a happy ending.
"Yes, the aliens are gone. Civilization is crippled. But HOORAY we're alive!"

To my account, the movie already has a very happy ending since the aliens died by themselves just coz of bacteria in a very short period that can only be rivaled by ID4's 3-day-invasion. By making the son alive, Spielberg just add more salt to the soup right?
I loved this movie. This and Minority Report do fair so well when upconverted on my PS3, too much grain enhancement. I am looking forward to Minority Report and this in beautiful Blu!
I want AI, ET, All the Indy films, Jurassic Park on Blu ray, Hurry up!!!!
