Buying this. So buying this.
Does it include the Director's Cut also? If it's four discs they certainly have room for it. And although I'm a huge fan of the graphic novel I thought the ending suited the movie well.
I too liked the film's ending. However, as for this release... I already own all of that stuff, albeit Black Freighter isn't cut into the film. However... Black Freighter sort of sucked. Well, as a completist/collector, I'll probably get it for Christmas or something, but I'm really sort of pissed that this wasn't the original Director's Cut. And I too think that with that many discs, there ought to be each cut of the film in this thing.
Also, I'm not really a big fan of the cover, why not just use The Comedian's pin? I mean it's cool-looking and all, but only nerds will want this, and we already know what the Black Freighter is; we don't need it to be on the cover. And we also know that it's supposed to be a frakking smiley face anyway.

Didn't care for the comic book and didn't care for this movie. The movie was actually a tad bit ridiculous. It's a shame that Jackie Earle Haley's awesome performance will be overshadowed by this movie. Though I'm glad that we're getting the special edition packaging they used to use on dvd for bluray. I always liked flipping open a case with artwork all around it.
Definitely gonna get that!!!! The cover is okay but maybe a lenticular cover of the smiley face then the pirate flag...i dunno. Still getting it even though I have the DC on Blu-ray. Haven't opened it yet though.
This movie was okay. I'm not sure if I want to buy it actually. Maybe I'll get this packaging. Will look into more details.
Wow than why the f**k didn't they release this first???

Because it's called a double dip.

I thought this movie was just decent, that's why I passed up on the double dip. In my opinion, the film should be phenomenal to be worthy of dropping $60 and waiting for the inevitable release. Good thing I didn't hold off on the three disc. So, all this "ultimate edition" has is the same three-disc extra stuff, just the Black Freighter? That's sucky.
What a lame package
It doesn't even include the vanilla director's cut?

Wow, what a c**ppy re-issue. I might not even get it considering it does not include the original Director's Cut.
How do you know the Director's Cut isn't included?
And Is the Black Freighter story optional when watching the movie?
Cheers

Is this gonna be like 5 hours long or something?
intresting artwork.
Okay, NOW they finally announce the release date for the big one! Guess I'll still keep my Director's Cut with the Best Buy-exclusive Dr. Manhattan head packaging. Man, this, Heat, and some other stuff I can't remember, are all coming out on Nov. 3rd. My pockets will be EMPTY.....
If you didn't see this coming you shouldn't be commenting on a DVD site.
And you're an idiot.

Never got around to buying Watchmen but I don't think I want to spend days on end watching this thing with the cartoon mixed in.
WAIT... so the theatrical cut is only included as a digital copy? I've been waiting for the definitive set with all three versions in full BD. This might not be "the one."
Clavius wrote: Is this simply the previous "Director's Cut" with the Black Freighter stuff added or is there even more live action footage put back in?
there is new live action footage, mostly having to do with the newspaper guy and that black kid reading the comic. and also the way they cut from and to the comic involves new footage as well.
but yeah, it seems like the director's cut isnt included at all so i dont regret having bought it. i liked the movie but not enough to get this but it definately be worth renting just to see. although TMN here in canada aired Grindhouse in its full 3hr plus theatrical version so maybe they'll eventually air this version as well.
considering how long this version will be....wonder if this means they'll split the movie onto two discs. i'm sure the blu-ray will fit on one but god knows they love splitting movies on dvd when there's no reason too.

Will be buying this. Looks awesome!
Definite buy. I waited because I knew this would happen. Also, for all of you asking if its the Director's Cut, you should read the fine print of the add. It clearly says "A brand new cut of the movie never seen in theaters. Includes Tales of The Black Freighter woven into the Director' Cut of the film." Hello people.
This cover kicks ass.
Not a real fan of the cover, but I really am excited about this release. I had placed an order for the Director's Cut when it was about to be released, based purely on a clip of the Director's Commentary, which looked pretty cool. Then I came to know this was coming out and I cancelled my order!
But I noticed that the length is 215 minutes. The director's cut was 186 minutes and Tales of the Black Freighter was 26 minutes. Looking at the math it doesn't look like we will get all the footage from the director's cut in this release. Guess I will have to buy that as well now.

This is why I waited. Cool cover, don't quite understand the skull and crossbones though. Overall this film was amazing. Especially considering all the hype that there was for this thing. Definitely worthy of a 5 pack. Does it come with anything special from Best Buy?
And can Tarantino please give us the Kill Bill: Whole Bloody Affair now. You're killing me QT.

Already picked up the US BD 3D Slip Cover and FutureShop BD Steelbook, that's just about enough of Watchmen I can take, probably will pass on this release.....
First day purchase. In fact i may just preorder it on amazon.com right now
Well that cover sucks. Should have just been the smiley or even better some of the Gibbon's work produced for the movie (but the packaging for the Blu looks pretty good on the inside). So the only new thing is the cut and the commentaries.....? Weak.

Your math is a little off. 186 + 26= 212, which means even with the Black Freighter cut in it's still three minutes longer than the Director's Cut.
Anyway, glad I held out because I will definitely be picking this up on Blu-Ray. Not a huge fan of the cover though; they should have just kept the smiley face on the button instead of using the Jolly Roger (I believe that's what it's called). Looks a little cheesy if you ask me.

Agreed. Cover would look so much better with the smiley!

If they give us a version with The Squid I'd be all over it, because this movie was near perfect except for that damn ending.
