Tales of the Black Freighter (featuring the voice of 300s Gerard Butler) brings to strikingly animated life the novels richly layered story-within-a-story, a daring pirate saga whose turbulent events may mirror those in the Watchmens world. Stars from the Watchmen movie team in the amazing live-action/CGI Under the Hood, based on Nite Owls powerful first-hand account of how the hooded adventurers came into existence. Two fan-essential stories. One place to watch the excitement. Watching the Watchmen begins here.

They're definitely trying to recoup the money they had to give to Fox

Well, like the motion comic, I guess I'll probably bite when this comes out too.....
I'm not familiar with the Watchmen novel at all.
What are these and how are they related to the main movie?

"Tales of the Black Freighter" is a comic book within the graphic novel that a kid is reading which parallels the main story. You could always just Wiki it for a better explanation.
Cool artwork; not so sure about the motion comics, but this I will definitely pick up right away. Though it will likely be a double-dip if they do actually release the film with this cut back into it. Hopefully "Under the Hood" will only be available in this so I don't feel like a total idiot for buying both twice.

oh my. March is going to rock! Currently on my upteenth re-read of Watchmen before the big release (picked up the hardback deluxe edition recently). The wait for this movie has been a long time coming. And yes, I will be getting this.
I'll wait to see if it's included in the Watchmen DVD.

Actually, this was planned WAY before that lawsuit even started.

I thought Zack Snyder announced that all of this (and more) would be included on the super duper edition of the Watchmen DVD and Blu-ray??
The Black Frieghter will be editted into the extended cut (whenever that might be), as per the novel.
Frankly I don't know how well it's going to work without it, considering how much of a part it plays in selling a huge part of the story.

Originally this was planned as part of the movie till the length of the film's time was longer than they wanted they decided to release it as a seperate film. But yes i would be surprised they would use some of the funds from the sales to pay Fox.

i will be buying both, and the movie when it comes out, too.
My question is, would this also not fall under the claim from Fox? It was part of the original book, so why not?

I'm sorry, but I hated this part of the graphic novel. It was random and pretty irrelevant, and I just all around didn't enjoy reading it. The rest of the book is amazing, just not so much this part.
While this was my least favorite part of the graphic novel, I didn't fully understand the pirate comic so i'll pick it up.
I'll check it out on Blu.

Dude, you should really just take the time and read the book. It's well worth your time and money. You can get it on Amazon for $12 and you will read it more than once.

I'm not too particularly keen on this bit of the comic either, but it's far from random and irrelevant.

My thoughts exactly. I think the 'tale' has a really darkly fantastic ending, and it'll be REALLY cool to hear butler do the voice (I thought he would've made a perfect Comedian, but the current actor sure as hell looks great anyway).
Since they'll add this to the extended cut, I won't bite this time. But that's what Netflix is for, right?

And no guarantees they planned to release it BEFORE the film until now!

Interesting that this comes out AFTER the movie hits theaters. Usually it's the other way around. If Watchmen bombs, here will come a DVD that sells few copies.

I think the movie will be c**p and have no plans to see it--to establish my feelings--but I still know for certain it won't bomb. At the very least, there will be far, far too much interest in it from people who just *HAVE* to see it, even if every single one of them magically hated it.

I also didnt really like the Black Freighter stuff so much. When i re-read Watchmen I skip the 'Black freighter' and 'Under the Hood' parts. But I am interested to see how they turn out. Intend to wait untill the main DVD release but curiosity will probably get the better of me before then........
Almost every single panel in Watchmen is a integral part in the understanding of the story's devastating pay off. To skip The Black Freighter or any of the other elements Watchmen has to offer is crazy talk.
Stand alone, maybe it's passable, but within the graphic novel The Black Freighter is incredibly effective.
As far as I'm concerned, until it's edited into the extended cut, we don't have a complete Watchmen movie.

UGH! I want this so bad! I am a huge Watchmen fan! I just dont understand why they dont release it BEFORE the movie!

Wait for a boxed set with all 3 to come out.
