I'm from the UK and of what I have read, the R1 2xdisc is the one to buy.
I hope it's not cut. If the uncut deleted scenes are on the dvd I will buy as in Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back. But if they are uncut why not put the scenes back into the film and relese it unrated?
Or is it too much to ask and you don't want to offend the Blockbuster morons?!
One thing surprises me is that here is no Kevin Smith commentary...why?
I read that in your c**p shop Wall-Mart, they are selling the dvd as just Zach And Miri. What is it with the goody-goody moralists of America?

Just so everyone knows, I think the "MAKE A PORNO" is gone from ALL releases. I looked at the DVD and Blu at Target (we get them early)and it is not on the cover so it is not just a Walmart thing.
You forgot the "Excellent!" after good times, Chris

The reason this didn't make more money then it did is because America is embaressed to talk about sex, like to there teenagers, so you think they are going to go to a movie about making a porn? Nope. There are too afraid that someone will look down on them because they saw a movie about making porn.
Also, most Americans have religion shoved so far up there A** that anything having to do with sex other then making babies is taboo.
So as much as I LOVE the title of this movie, ultimately, having the word "PORNO" in the title killed this movie before it even came out. You lost 50% of your audience just from that. Which is too bad because this is my favorite comedy of 2008.

Just to clear things up-
* That's right. There's no commentary. Kevin said on his message board he'd be too depressed, thinking about how much money the movie should have made, wondering what went wrong.
* Yeah, that is a dildo or vibrator in Katie Morgan's hands.
* Kevin Smith did not have to cut anything out for an R rating so there would be nothing to put back into an "unrated" version. By now, though, most people know "unrated" is just a ploy and rarely contains anything more controversial than was already in the rated version. The only people who choose unrated over rated are gullible horny teenagers or adults only when the unrated is the only version available or has more features.
* Ben Affleck screwed his OWN career up and Smith isn't copying Apatow. He just used Seth Rogen because he liked him in Virgin and Rogen brought along friends/Apatow regulars Banks & Robinson. It wasn't intentional.

Just wanted to address some concerns I've been reading in the comments section here. I read Kevin Smith's message board regularly at his viewaskew.com website. He's made some posts regarding the lack of a commentary track. He also said that while there won't be one on the disc, they will be recording a commentary track as a SModcast episode.
He also gave a complete rundown of the extra features that will be on the disc:
- 43 Deleted scenes (totaling 95 minutes)
- 22 Money Shots Webisodes (50 minutes)
- Feature-length documentary, Popcorn Porn: Watching Zack & Miri Make A Porno (75 minutes)
- Comic-con Panel 2008 (23 minutes)
- Gang-bang: Outtakes & Bloopers (13 minutes)
- Seth vs. Justin: Battle for Improvisational Supremacy (8 minutes)
- Blu-ray only: BD Live—which will gives us the option of having downloadable bonus features at some time in the future
Totaling 4 hours and 21 minutes of bonus
I, for one, can't wait to pick this up.

I too am VERY surprised there is no commentary. All of his films have a commentary track.

And just how did Kevin Smith ruin Ben Aflecks career?
This was Rogen's best movie, in my opinion, since 40 year old virgin.

Passed in the theater, an dI will buy it to add to my KS Collection. Not a Seth Rogan fan, but I will get it anyway.
Looking forward to this, i hope it's region free on Blu.
i'd like to see an extended cut... or the real NC-17 cut...

What, no commentary? Smith is only one of the best commentators out there, I find it hard to believe there wouldn't be one here, maybe it's an oversight.
I may blind buy this based on the strength of Smith's other films. Heck, even Jersey Girl had its moments.

The inclusion of a full length documentary has me sold. The deleted and extended scenes are icing on that cake.
I'm with Tyler. Usually, you can't get Smith to shut up about making his flicks (but why would you want to? I love hearing him talk), but not having a commentary on this seems really fishy. Wonder what happened...
And at the Red Bank 11/08 Q&A, the question about the whole "Smith makes an Apatow" film was addressed, and Apatow admitted as much - that he is influenced by Smith. Also, what makes this an "Apatow"-like film is just the fact that Seth Rogen's in it. There is a little bit of a sameness to everything he does (except for "Donnie Darko"), but the rest of it was all genuine Smith.
With Apatow's movies, a lot of it is a kind of "let's fling sh*t at a wall, see which turd sounds funnier, cut that together and make a movie". That's a very harsh statement, and I like the Apatow movies, don't get me wrong. But a lot of his movies feel the same way - that uncomfortable, linger-too-long-on-a-subject kind of feel. With Smith, it's more focused and less loose. I didn't see the corollaries that everyone seemed to be drawing between this film and what Judd Apatow had done before, other than the fact that Rogen tends to play the same guy in every movie. Look at it differently, and you'll see that this movie is all Kevin Smith, whether you like it or not.

Disappointing extras on this one. Still, a must own!

I am disappointed that there's no commentary. And yeah, since none of Kevin Smith's flicks to date have had an "Unrated" cut and Smith got what he wanted on appeal, don't hold your breath for any double dips (except of course in ten years).

I love how at Wal-Mart, the tagline on the cover is "This is the last job that they can blow," whereas here it's "What would you do to get out of debt?"
It's funny how they can't say Porno, yet they can put that double-entendre on their cover

What could be wrong with porn?
I like the cover, I like how they made each character dress like a cliche porn character. The movie was great, will definitely buy.
missed this in theaters. a rent for me first, then a buy later if I like it.
Getting the chance to see this at TIFF08 was so amazing.
I actually like the cover art alot. I might get on blu ray when it comes out. Depends on what else is out at that time. If something better, then I'll hold off on this for another day. It was funny, but, not hilarious. It did, however, have a sweet, soft tone hidden in under the vulgarity.

During Kevin's Q&A in Red Bank in November, he said that he pretty much, for all intents and purposes, got what he wanted. He had to cut a few frames of thrusting and a few frames of the ... well, if you've seen the movie, you'll know that a certain character's constipation plays into this. He took the movie to the MPAA and got an NC-17 the first time. He cut what they wanted out and still got an NC-17. They demanded more cuts; he didn't cut any more and appealed it, basing his arguments on the grounds that it was comedic and not trying to titillate or actually BE a porno. He got an R based on that appeal without making any further cuts.
Definitely going to buy this one. LOVE this flick.

I too was expecting an unrated cut - oh and I am actually in the movie during the strip club scene! :D
Not a huge fan of the cover art. They should have used the theatrical poster of just Rogen and Banks.
Anyway, I'll definitely rent it. It seemed hilarious.
horrorfan25 wrote: Terrible cover art. They should have used the original theatrical poster that said 'Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks made a movie so titillating we can only show you this drawing'. I thought that was a great cover art. Plus if they took out 'Porno' in the title more people would see it. Also shouldn't the label 2-disc edition, should be on the top instead of the bottom?
I highly disagree. I think if they took out "porno" less people would see it. It's that part of the title that intrigues people most. A movie called "Zack & Miri Make a Porno" grabs my attention much more than a movie simply called "Zack & Miri" would.

It kinda reminds me of those Epic/Date/Disaster movie artworks and other c**p DTV comedy artworks.

Great movie, although it does get too sentimental at times.
Though I love Mewes's pose, they should probably rethink the cover and go with one of the theatrical posters.

I find it a little odd that Smith's name isn't featured on the cover. I mean, I checked and it's absent from most of his films' DVD covers, but somehow its absence here seems more conspicuous. Then again, I suppose the alternative is the Jersey Girl cover...
Weird cover art - but Banks looks great on it - so it balances out.
The cover art reminds me of those stupid spoof movies that get released every year. As for the movie itself, I thought it was excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will for sure be picking it up.

CROWDED cover art. As to oppose is "only" called "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" rather than having the entire porn cast in the cover. They would have used the stick figure cover.
i'd say i'm impressed they put the full title but of course we all know that "kissy lips" wasnt placed there simply to be cute.

You're half-right. I do recall being double-dipped on "Clerks", "Mallrats", "Chasing Amy" and "Dogma" from bare-bones to super-special editions. The only Smith films to be released on DVD packed with extras the first time around were "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" and to a lesser extent, "Clerks II".
Actually, there's only been one release of Chasing Amy that I know of, the 10th anniversary edition never materialized for some reason. And I wouldn't call the first editions of Clerks and Mallrats "bare-bones" per se, they were actually fairly nice editions with plenty of extras each. Only the initial Dogma release qualifies as "bare-bones".

This movie was awesome! Would prefer the theatrical poster (the one that was banned from theatres), but the artwork is OK. Not entirely sure why Jason Mewes is wearing a thong....
LOOOVE this movie!!! A definite buy!
Don't be fooled by the crude humor, which is HILARIOUS, but Elizabeth Banks and Seth Rogen deliver excellent and heartfelt performances! If Tropic Thunder can get acting nominations at the Golden Globes, then this one should've gotten nominated for acting as well!
Definite win for BEST KISS at the MTV movie awards! Their scene together was AMAZING!!!
